Senate Unanimously Passes

We did it! Thanks to thousands of people like you across the country,
the US Senate by a unanimous vote has passed the Mental Health Parity
Act of 2007 (S. 558). This critical legislation will ensure that
Americans with employer-sponsored health insurance and their families
receive mental health care coverage at the same level as coverage for
general health problems.

Mental Health America commends the Senate for passing this historic
legislation to end mental health insurance discrimination, and extends
its special thanks to the bill’s sponsors, Senators Pete
Domenici (R-New Mexico), Michael B. Enzi (R-Wyoming) and Edward
Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) for their determined leadership. You
can also thank your senators for their support of mental health parity
by calling their offices. Find your senators’ phone numbers

Despite this victory, our work is not over. Another parity bill is
slowly advancing in the House of Representatives. Both chambers, of
course, have to agree on and pass the same parity bill. As the
dust settles, we will need your help to be sure that the strongest
possible mental health parity bill gets sent to the president.
You’ve already made a difference, and we can do it again.

Please forward this message to everyone you know so they can hear the
good news and be poised to take action to end discrimination in
insurance coverage against people with mental illness and addiction.

Thanks for all you do.
