Useless Facts..

In the movie "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back", 120 hours of film were shot and edited down to a 120 minute movie. To say that most of the film shot ended up on the cutting room floor would thus be an understatement. LOL.

According to research by the great, scientific minds at Clairol, women are happiest at the age of 28.

The age of 28 has been pinpointed as the time in a woman’s life her hair looks the best, body shape is at its peak and confidence is at an all-time high.

It was found that women have six bad hair days a month

  • Combing is less detrimental than brushing

  • Hair grows faster in warm weather

Elderly people have slower hair growth and diminished hair density

Cutting hair does not influence its growth

Hair is the fastest growing tissue in the body, second only to bone marrow.

35 meters of hair fiber is produced every day on the average adult scalp.

The average scalp has 100,000 hairs. Redheads have the least at 80,000; brown and black haired persons have about 100,000; and blondes have the most at 120,000.

90% of scalp hairs are growing and 10% are resting.

It is normal to lose 100 hairs per day from the scalp.

You must lose over 50% of your scalp hairs before it is apparent to anyone.

Mosquitoes prefer children to adults, and blondes to brunettes.

I wouldn't have guessed it because they love me. But they usually don't have a choice... If only I knew a blonde person so I could test this.

And it's not a useless fact, but the star Polaris hasn't always been the North Star and in the future the star Vega will be the North Star. In the past other stars have been the North Star.

It appears to be fixed in the sky and doesn't rise and set but it does actually move.

OK, let’s test your ability to distinguish health fact from fiction. Which of the following statements is a myth?

- Cold weather makes you sick

- Green mucus indicates a sinus infection

- Milk makes you phlegmy

- Cracking your knuckles will cause arthritis

- You lose most of your body heat through your head

Answer: All of them.

Fact from Old England ~

England was old and small and the local folks started running out of
places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take
the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave. When reopening these
coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the
inside and they realised they had been burying people alive. So they
would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the
coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would
have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift.) to
listen for the bell; thus, someone could be, “saved by the bell” or
was considered a “dead ringer”...

To add to the North Star trivia: this movement, or "wobble" of the Earth's north pole is called "precession"; the pole makes one complete circuit in roughly 26,000 years.

My useless fact for the day: it is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open (my apologies if this is a repeat!)

Great thread idea!
