Extreme Emotions

Recommended Posts

The other thread was OCD related but I don't know where to put this.

----

I have extreme reactions to nearly everything, and I have been this way for a long time now.

I get irrationally angry and often start screaming when I am not happy with someone (especially someone close to me) over something, even if is not a major thing. Most people would get annoyed but never go to the extremes that I do.

Similarly, when I am happy about something minor, I act too happy, if that makes sense.

I often have extreme mood swings for no reason at all.

I really don't know what to do. Please help.

Hello, glad to have you join the DF, its a great place to be, and while we cannot diagnose, we can offer advice. I would print out the above post and take it into your doctor or better yet, in the USA and Canada, a Psychiatrist. If I were to *quess* I would say this sounds like bi-polar (but I am not suppose to suggest that ahem...) You really need a diagnosis from a professional.

You might want to check the bi-polar forum just to see if you see any insights there. Whatever you are diagnosed with though is treatable... Remember that mental illness's are often physical illnesses and that there are no longer in stigmas attached to people seeking help in this area. I asked my general practioner how many people he sees for depression, anxiety, panic attacks, etc... and he says "oh about 60%" so you see, you are not alone in this... fortunately today we have a much better understanding of the different disorders and what type of therapy may be needed...

Good Luck...

I was going to say the same thing--check out the Bipolar forum and see if any of the symptoms ring true for you.

Only a psychiatrist can say for sure, of course. There could be a physical cause such as hormone imbalance, thyroid trouble or any number of things. Check with your regular doctor and he/she can send you to the proper specialist (if need be).

I'm sending positive thoughts your way. I hope you'll find a cause and a cure--you deserve help and some normalcy in your life.

Take care,

Aerial

I would look into perhaps seeing a therapist/psychiatrist to see if there might be a diagnosis. There, of course, are plenty of resources on this site to browse and read.

Best wishes

I was thinking the same thing as Avian86. Obviously only a doctor can diagnose you, but I have Borderline Personality Disorder and you described it to a "T". You may want to look it up as well as Bipolar Disorder.
