Nuit 0 Posted April 23, 2008 I'm currently on Wellbutrin SR (150mg 2xday) and I've been on it for 8 months. It has moved my average mood from really depressed to sort of OK, and sometimes even good. However my mood will randomly nose dive irrespective of what's going on in therapy or in my life. The Pdoc and therapist are thinking about adding Lamictal to the Wellbutrin SR. So far my diagnosis is clinical depression, so the hope is that it will prevent the crashes into deep dark moods.Does anyone have experience with this combination?
Sheepwoman 539 Posted April 23, 2008 I took 450mg of WB with 300mg of Lamictal. The WB did nothing for me and was taken off it. Lamictal continues to be my main stabilizer along with 2 AD's, anothe stabilizer and an anti-psychotic.Sheepwoman
braap 0 Posted April 24, 2008 This has been an excellent combination for me. I have BP2 and have tried almost every medication out there used to treat BP and depression. SSRIs didn't work because they made me manic, anxious and an occasional panic attack. For the mania I have tried Lithium, Abilify, Seroquel...They didn't seem to help much, especially with depression, and the side effects were horrible. When I finally found the Lamictal Wellbutrin combo my life completely changed, for the better. I take 150 mgs of Wellbutrin XL and 100 mgs of Lamictal. The Lamictal really helps the Wellbutrin fight the depression and allows me to keep the Wellbutrin dose low. And, all of this with virtually no side effects. So yes, I think this is an excellent combo and that by adding Lamictal you will see an improvement in your depression with minimal side effects. Also, you should see improvements within a few days of starting Lamictal, at least I did, it's that effective.
Nuit 0 Posted April 25, 2008 braap and Sheepwoman,Thank you for the information. I wanted some input before I see the Pdoc, and this really helps. This sounds encouraging, since I've really had my fill of mood plummets, and hopefully this will be the combination for me.
matthew emery 1 Posted October 4, 2020 Spoiler the huge crashes are the worst...they were destroying me, this combo has pretty much taken them away. I had similar good experience as others who have posted. It gets better brother, glad you are working with a specialist...I went to counciling and was going to regular doc and it isn't the same
austbobbie 4 Posted November 21, 2020 on lamictal 400 mg and just began Wellbutrin. Took about 2 weeks to feel the combo result, it has helped immensely. I needed an antidepressant to help with my chronic stress and severe depression. Hopefully this continues. Just my story, everyone is different. Good luck and best wishes for a better journey.
