I'm personable and reasonable but can't stand anyone in real life.  It's very obvious that everyone in this world only cares about themselves.  In this world even grandma baking cookies is doing it as a move because she wants something.

@sober4life that's because we are mental. Some people are normal and enjoy other people. But the cell phones and corona is trying to change that to. Am I right or am I right? 😆lol it's the end anyway so I guess it doesn't matter. People are working so much now days there's not much time for anyone or anything.

Let yourself fail, let yourself make mistakes. Your job experience is in a different environment, that doesn't mean you are an expert in a new environment. What's the worst that can happen? You get fired? You change field to a different job industry? Failing is not the end of the world.

The workplace is a place where failure are not tolerated. Make mistake/failure, and management will make you the scapegoat to dump all the blame on.

Yes that happens to me too many times. That’s why I’m always job hopping and on contract jobs. Used to scare me and still scares me. A friend told me he see me as someone who is like “I’m so good I can switch jobs like when I desire.” Funny joke cos I get nervous and scared when I need to find a new job and just might end up jobless forever.

But makes no difference cos I feel down with a job, I feel down with no job. So why stay in a place I don’t like, I’m always making mistakes wherever I go and hate myself for it but I accepted that I guess. I don’t really see mistakes as a bad thing anymore cos just because I make them does not make me a bad person cos I tried my best. It still terrifies me and freeze me when I do fail in certain tasks. My current job is still terrible by the way but looking forward for the contract to end.

Universal basic income is starting to sound good, even if simply mentioning it leads to accusations of socialism or worse. Thanks to COVID, the government is sending cash to many people who don't even need it. Why not make it permanent, but only for those who need it?

There's Medicaid and disability, but I hear these require some major hoops to jump through. Nonetheless, some seem able to game this system somehow.

Have you tried CBT to overcome your fears?

You get fired? You change field to a different job industry? Failing is not the end of the world. And it is normal to be nervous, don't hit yourself just because you are nervous. Courage is having the fear and doing it anyway. Is the microscope on you real or is it your paranoia?

If your boss knows you are making mistakes, that might be bad, but if you are making mistakes and learning from it, that's a good attitude. And learning does not mean you make zero mistakes the next week. You make less mistakes over time, take 2 steps forward, 1 step back, that's still a step forward. Maybe you took 3 steps back but you will still take another step the next day cos you're resilient. Give yourself maybe 3 months to make mistakes ok? Give yourself grace, its ok. Your mind is a container, you can't put in positive thoughts if you don't change the negative memories first. Work on getting over your past?

Are you sleeping less cos of your anxiety? I suffer that too, it does take a toll on me. The negative thoughts towards myself are endless and I can't stop them unless I focus on my daughter. I guess I have a family outside my job that helps distracts my poor performance in my job. I hope your therapist is helping you overcome this. I feel your pain 😞

I’m sorry it took so long for me to respond to your kind words.  Thank you.  Yes I tell my therapist everything.  She seems to be a backseat type of therapist, but she is responsive and remembers everything I tell her.  She told me I have generalized anxiety disorder and she told me my sleeping problems are typical anxiety induced insomnia.

I think this happened because of my career change.  It’s a big change and a stressor.  Add that to the pandemic situation and it’s a lot to deal with, but I am on antidepressants and I felt them kick it pretty quick.  Within a week and I have not had a panic attack in a week or so and this past week, my sleep has improved.

Hey everyone ,

I haven't been on in almost two months. So ive been catching up on the thread and taking notes myself on some of the suggestions people gave to dealing with work anxiety.

lately I have been having to deal with me and my brother who work together being constantly harassed  by this lady at work. Its gotten to the point where I feel like im going to unload on her any day now. And sometimes im scared my brother will do it and that would be worse since hes a guy.

I honestly dont know whats wrong with some people that they have so much hate that they feel the need to make someone life at work hell. whats worse too is this lady is so manipulative and is one of those ladies that claims to believe in god  and always proclaims that god sees all and he will make Justice happens ! and then proceeds to make justice happens on her own accord. If there is a God and a devil then she seems to be doing the Devils work and not Gods. I really dont know what to do with this. I feel like were in high school and Im worries about telling my principal and parents about this for fear of it getting worse and the principal is HR.

This lady has already been to HR because of her bad behavior with other people and they never do anything to them . They just continue to work there like nothing

I am a year+ into working from home and I am so over it. When we were all in the office, things were not great. My boss is bad at communications and there is rampant favoritism/cliques within the company, including the fact my department is low on the priority scale compared to others. They also have no idea what they are doing a lot of the time and have given indication whatsoever when we might be returning. The governor just announced that he is about to bump up the capacity level for offices soon so maybe that will get them going. My fear is that they will give little notice...like tell us on a Thursday that we will be back that following Monday or something like that.

I'm in the same boat, have been struggling with motivation at work. Had a horrible boss last year who absolutely destroyed me (since moved to a different part of the company) ... He's gone but I just can't shake the apathy.

The governor announced some of the restrictions and capacity limits are being ended very soon...that includes offices which can now be 100% capacity. Still have to abide by the six feet rule though so my guess is that things will remain the same as my employer seems to have little interest in us returning or reconfiguring our office space, which would need to be done because it is not spaced out enough.

I went through that as well. He retired a year ago but I haven't recovered from his passive-aggressive approach to everything. I don't care about the workplace anymore, which is sad--I've been there for over 32 years.

So HR placed me in this department 3 months ago. And already I have a rocky relationship with my boss who has been at the job for 10 years. Everyone else has been there for a number of years. So my boss dislikes me, finds it frustrating to mentor me, the new guy, and is pretty open about it. Learning the ropes and being the new guy is never easy. And the approach of my boss is not helpful for my long-term development. I don't hate working for my company. I just dislike working for that one boss.

(PS. Due to the pandemic, I haven't even met my boss in person either.)

Want to know if you're ready for the workforce or only disability? Here's a sample interview question:

You have 11-13 MOST URGENT TOP PRIORITY tasks from both multiple clients and your management, how do you prioritize them?

How you're able to answer this determines whether you're suitable for the working a job, or only disability

I’ve been on annual leave for the past three weeks and I’ll have to go back in a few days.

When I’m at work all I want to do is go home, but when I’m at home I just sit around doing nothing and let obsessions take over.

My answer would be "get up from the desk, walk away, and take a nap for the rest of the day." And it would be a truthful answer.

My motivation has been somewhat better recently but that went out the window quick thanks to a couple not so good days. There is no reason for me whatsoever to do anything above and beyond the bear minimum required of me because it will get me nowhere.

Well yesterday I got fired from my job that I loved...Oh and today is my birthday.  I've worked around COVID patients for the past 7 months in a hospital & not once did I have an awful a day as I am today.  So yeah, that's my work thread.

Annoyed that I don’t have the proper access to get the info I need (been asking about it for a long time) and have to rely on others to get me the info. Mostly my boss who sends it to me but occasionally have to ask a co-worker who is the only other one with the proper access. She knows what I need yet sent me the wrong info and I emailed her asking for clarifcation and she didn’t respond back. My boss isn’t real timely on responding either. Seems to be a trait in the company.

Yeah I feel the same way! With the job I have now I rather stay home then be at work. But before this job I was unemployed for a long time and it’s depressing to not have job too. At least work can help me feel useful and my brain occupied

Have you guys ever reported anyone from work to HR ?

im on the fence if I should report this lady I work with because she won’t leave me alone.

I feel like I’m in high school thinking about whether to report my high school bully to the principal or not

Wow. I'm sorry. And on your birthday to top it off. How "wonderful."

Tomorrow is my last day where I've worked for 32.5 years. I was being "strongly encouraged" to "retire." I can take a hint.

Hope things turn around for you quickly.

Thank you @JD4010 It was a rather crappy week.  I pretty much lived like a hermit.  But it's a new week & it's time to get back into the world.  Sorry to hear about your job.  That happened to me in 2019.  After 23 years of a job that was my second home, I was let go because the company was sold and I was upper management...so naturally I get the ax.  No grand send off, no package, just "ADIOS"...my boss actually said that...Adios.  So I know how you feel.  Good luck to you though & I hope better things are heading your way!

Less than thrilled with my job right now...going to do the bear minimum required of me. Being helpful and trying to reach out isn’t worth it, gets you nowhere and is more of a hassle than a help lately. I’ve got to start looking elsewhere.

Lost nearly $900 in sports betting today because work sucks any joy I have in life. Overall I’ve probably lost about 15k in the last month.

I’ve tried changing to a different store, changed my hours a hundred times, etc. I now work significantly less hours than before. It hasn’t changed anything though. Only thing I haven’t tried is changing jobs but it won’t work because I’ll just feel the same way.

I’ve considered investing but by the time I accumulate enough money to retire, my life will be over.
