BrainRot
Day 1 Just made the switch from Prozac to Lexapro (5mg). I'm going to keep a journal here about my experience.
Epictetus
Thanks for doing that. It will help a lot of members here. I wish you the very, very best with the Lexapro!
BrainRot
Day 4 I spent pretty much all of the weekend going through Prozac withdrawals. I was supposed to taper off for 2 weeks but I shortened it to 1 week because I just couldn't stand to have it in my system anymore. It was making me miserable. The withdrawals were no joke and the depression was as dark as it could get without actually acting on it. I'm feeling much better today (Monday). I'm hoping that the Lexapro is the reason why I'm feeling better. The only bad side effect so far is that I've had diarrhea since I started taking it. I hope that goes away soon.

Lexapro will make you feel a lot better but a side effect is diarrhea. Always take it when you know that you will be near a bathroom for a hour or so when you first take it

BrainRot
Day 7 Feeling a bit better today. I suppose I got a better nights sleep and was only woken up 3 times. I've been eating a lot of candy lately. It's keeping me from locking myself in the bathroom and crying. I miss being by myself most of the day. I've never been a people person. Lately I have the kid, wife, mother in law and father in law all here because of the coronavirus lockdown. My anxiety is getting higher now that the Prozac has worn off. Diarrhea has gone away for the past 3 days. Hoping it stays gone and that my body has gotten used to the medication. ladysmurf
it worked for a while for me. one of the very few medications that worked in my life. my anxiety and depression were under control that I had not felt that normal for a while. it did **** my libido though, but everyone is different. i hope it works out for you. i wish it would have worked longer for me, because i really felt alive when i took it and my life was much better than now but i and the medical field don't know why drugs stop working for people after a while. hopefully they will figure it out someday
BrainRot
Day 8 My doctor and I agreed to stay on it for another week. Today I had a low grade headache behind my left eye. The headache has now grown into a borderline migraine and I can't stop thinking about suicidal thoughts. Before I considered them dark thoughts but now I have a sense of calming because I had a vision of getting into heaven still if I commit suicide. I've never thought that before and always believed that it's just lights out when you die. So now I'm feeling a sense of relief and purpose.
BrainRot
Day 9 Headache is still here. Feeling a sense of hopelessness again. Trying to fight all of my thoughts at this point. I hate being at war with myself.
BrainRot
Day 11 Yesterday (Sunday) was actually a good day for half the day. I felt great until around 12. Then I felt so tired that I took a nap. When I woke up I felt like someone had shot me in the chest. I felt so terrible. Heart palpitations more than usual for the rest of the night. I'm not sure if I have a heart condition or a food allergy/intolerance is messing with me.
BrainRot
Day 12 Actually had my first good day yesterday. Which is odd because it was a Monday. The whole day I didn't have a single thought of suicide. That is big for me! I think it helped that I was fasting for 10 hours for a blood test (testing allergies and vitamin levels). I definitely have a food intolerance issue affecting my mood if I feel great when fasting. Today I've had some donuts and I feel like crap. I'm sure it will affect my mood later as well. This correlates with my food intolerance test that I took stating that all milk, cheese, and yogurt have a high reactivity. Some sort of an immunoresponse to these foods. I'm going to try cutting out all dairy from my diet for a couple of weeks (starting tomorrow). Fingers crossed.
BrainRot
Day 13 Yesterday was good as well even though I ate so terrible. Today I feel good. I think the Lexapro is working. It's not making my blood boil like the Prozac did. Although Prozac was better for anxiety the Lexapro is better for depression. At least in my case, everyone is different. I'm feeling optimistic.
BrainRot
Day 18 - Dosage Change Sunday was a good day. The depression won't go away though. Anxiety too. Been feeling a pressure in my chest lately. Very tired all of the time. I slept most of the days away. Finding it hard to play with the kid or do simple tasks. Doctor wants to up the dose and have me switch to taking it at night time.
BrainRot
Day 19 Took 10mg before bed last night and slept really well. I had lots of dreams and only woke up once. Starting the day off with a cookie and decaf coffee. Vitamin D levels are normal.
Epictetus
Thanks for keeping us posted on how you are doing. I had to be on the maximum dose of Lexapro before I got better. I hope you will keep letting us know how things are going.
BrainRot
Day 20 Feeling good today. It's strange. I have been having a lot of old memories coming up since taking Lexapro. Memories from my childhood. Things I'd forgotten about. I find myself daydreaming a lot more. Seems something is restructuring in my brain? Feels like my mind is defragging. Could be a good sign. BrainRot
Woke up feeling good again. Been having a chest ache since starting Lexapro if I do too much. It's better since taking the medication before bedtime but still there when I'm moving around a lot.
BrainRot
Day 25 Checked myself into urgent care yesterday because I was having chest pains and aches. Shortness of breath. Nothing on the xrays or blood work. I think I was just having a negative reaction to the Lexapro. Today I fell into a deep depression and high anxiety. Seems the Lexapro is wearing off. I may stop taking it if I'm going to keep having issues.

BrainRot
I contacted my doctor's office shortly after quitting the Lexapro and told them that I wasn't going to take any more antidepressants until after I check my vitamin levels, hormone levels, and thyroid levels. I discovered that I have a vitamin deficiency and thyroid issue caused by Hashimoto's. My immune system is attacking my thyroid which leads to depression and fatigue. All of my other systems suddenly made sense as well. I will go back in soon and do another blood test then go from there. I urge anyone reading this, please get these three things checked if you are depressed. Just to rule it out. I wasted a lot of time trying Wellbutrin, Zoloft, 5HTP, St. John's, Prozac and Lexapro. I wasted a lot of time thinking I was crazy.
