Anyone gone back to Paxil after years of being off it?

Recommended Posts

HI all, I was on Paxil for about 12 years or so. I felt it was starting to poop out (I was on the max 40mg), so tried various other things (Lexapro, Effexor). Well, nothing seems to work like Paxil did, so now, 5 years later, I am considering trying Paxil again. My pdoc says it could work again, just not sure. So I was wondering if anyone was on it for a long time like me, quit, then went back on it, and if it worked at all?  I jus cannot find another med that works like Paxil did 😞

I haven't stop and started Paxil.  But I have other meds including luvox and zoloft. Worked with zoloft. Not with Luvox.  It is certainly worth a try.  I really wish scientists could come with more consistent psych meds.  It seems like the longer the SSRI's are around the more confusing prescribing guidelines and inconsistencies are,.

i'm curious for an update on this med. i had been on Paxil years ago for panic and anxiety, but had to go off due to brain issues with it at the time. dr had to wean me off it twice due to complications.

how are you getting on now?

Well, I never went back to it, tried all sorts of other things though, nothing with much success. No I am on lamotrigine and it is not helping that much. I have tremendous anxiety. I may ask to back on Paxil next if i do not get anyway with lamotrigine. I just fear it not working and having no other options. Have you found anything that helps like Paxil did?

Hi!I took Paxil for about 8 years and tried to stop it several times but without success.Only a year ago I managed to get off Paxil. The withdrawal is a very long process, personally it took 6 months to quit it.God only knows how it will be further, but for this moment l live without meds for a year or so.I think that in many cases it will be impossible to get off meds if you don't change your life completely, your style of thinking.....etc.That's why psychotherapy is extremely important...

Jogging (10-20km) is very helpful for me.It reduces anxiety and depression symptoms .Though it doesn't solve the problem for 100%.To my mind every problem of some kind is very individual.l live with recurrent brief depression for a long period and still there is no solution.I think now it would be better to reread "Cognitive therapy of depression" by J.Beck. All the same sooner or later the solution will be find.

Breathing techniques can help to ease anxiety,or depressive symptoms, even the simplest exercises.Or try to combine such things as running, walking, any physical activity (house cleaning) during the whole day and relaxation. It really works.

As for antidepressants,do not expect quick results .It will take a month or two to achieve some effects. In many cases (if the med is right) you have to take it.(my personal opinion) for a certain period.
