Counteracting Sexual Side Effects Of Lexipro

Recommended Posts

Anyone out there successfully counteract the sexual side effects of Lexapro.  Through a drug holiday or other med augmentation?   For me, everything works down there except there is not much feeling and climax has no pleasure what so ever.

Long story short, I will not be going off Lexapro.

Please share your success stories.

I’ve been on lexapro for over 2 years now, same dose (10mgs) and I have no sex drive at all. I’ve had sex a few times these last few years but I don’t enjoy it like I used to and tbh would rather not do it. I assume this is a side effect of the drug (but I was raped a few years back so it could be that also) but everything works down there and I’ve been able to orgasm, but it doesn’t feel that great 🤷🏻‍♀️ Idk, it’s hard to say, I feel like I’m more sensitive down there, but it seems to hurt more rather than be pleasurable, idk!

ssri's are known to do that... some people said trintellix has less sexual side effects than other SSRI's ..its the latest one on the market...but if you are using this only for depression, maybe try wellbutrin that has no sexual side effects..but it does not work for anxiety..or ask the doctor about it?

You can add one of the following to help counteract the sexual side effects:

  • trazodone
  • nefazodone
  • mirtazapine (watch out for weight gain)
  • PDE5 inhibitors (like Cialis, Viagra but I wouldn't recommend that one because of its black box warnings, Levitra)

Drug holidays can help but it's not a reasonable way to live.  Someone wants to have sex today and our response is supposed to be something like give me a couple of days.  Nobody is going to want to put up with it.
