I did it..............finally..............ugh. A good post!

Recommended Posts

Well, I have been in and out of depression and lots of anxiety for a few years now.  Quit my job last December and took my retirement money out to live on.  I am nowhere near retirement age but I just wasn't ready to work.

Long story short, I was a teacher but they kept moving me around, etc.  So much anxiety that I finally quit.

Today I interviewed with an online ESL teaching company where I can work from home using my computer and interacting and teaching Chinese students.  I was so nervous that I canceled it like 4 times but they finally said, no more canceling.

Fingers crossed that I get it.

I sort of freeze up in interviews but I think I did okay today.

If you are having trouble interviewing for jobs, I get it.  It's so freakin' hard sometimes - especially if you get anxiety.

Hang in there folks.  My life isn't all sunshine and roses now but I made a little step forward.

Thanks for listening!!

That's wonderful you were able to take that step! Congratulations! That would be a wonderful job for you, wouldn't it? Income, stay at home, being productive and doing what you were trained to do. Good luck! As an old friend used to say, "crossing fingers, toes and nose hairs" for ya.

Anxiety could be thought of as "stage fright".

Actors will admit they actually need that stage fright to bring out their inner strength.

Sounds counterintuitive but it seems to work for many actors.

Anyway it's something to think about.

Dear tracyistryingThank you for sharing your concerns with us. I’m truly sorry that you are dealing with such difficult situation. These forums are great for sharing burdens, and venting. Even in the darkest moments in our lives there’s always hope. It is understandable the way that you feel because you want to settle down in one place. I’m glad to know that you found a job from home. Please hang it there! I encourage you to feel more confident and that you are going to succeed teaching students from abroad.  Maybe you can take out good of this situation that you have to deal with. Counseling or therapy works through things like this. You are valuable and worthy of fighting for. No matter what is your age, we can always start again, make the things new and start a new chapter in our lives.  I will keep you in my prayers, my friend. – keep us posted, OK?

Actually, I never heard back from the company so I guess I did horrible?   Anyways, I can always submit a recorded demo, which I will try to do.  Been pretty down about the situation but need to pick myself up and move on.  Also, looking into substitute teaching come Monday morning.

Thanks for the words of encouragement peeps.  I'm really pretty happy that I even did the interview because at least it's a step in the right direction.

@tracyistrying, have you checked into online tutoring services, like Skooli or SmartThinking? I don't have a clue how much they pay, but I think they'd love to have someone like you on staff.

Hang in there. I know what it's like to try to work while dealing with depression. If I didn't telecommute, I wouldn't be able to do it.

Update:  I called about a job today and it looks promising and they will even pay for me to get training in another reading program, one that I have had very good feelings about!!  Talked to a woman on the phone and emailed my resume.  It would involve driving a ways but I live in the middle of nowhere.  Had to drive for my last job.  My car is in great shape so driving isn't a problem.  I like winding down in the car on the way home.

Fingers crossed again!!😀

That's great Tracy! Congratulations! Remember: one step at a time so you don't get overwhelmed with learning a new job.
