:hearts: to DF, and the WB forum, irene07!

What you're describing sounds exactly like the WB honeymoon so many people go through. WB works almost immediately, giving you a week or two of relief from depression, and increased energy. This is a glimpse of what's to come, but unfortunately, it's a temporary side effect, a sort of mirage in the desert. After it's over, you may sink right back down to how you were feeling before you started WB. This can be very discouraging and confusing to people who think the drug has already given up on them. Actually, it hasn't even started. The true antidepressant effects take the typical 6-8 weeks to build up and stabilize, so you need to be patient. After a full two months, you'll feel somewhat like you did during the first couple of weeks, but it's not usually as intense. WB has a brightening effect on the mood, and helps with focus and motivation. Be sure to give it the full two months to see what it can do for you.

Im sooooo relived i found this site! im on day 10 of Wellbutrin SR 150mg 2X daily (generic) and this is exactly what im experiencing! and now im really disappointed and feeling down after experiencing real happiness for once in my life (guess you dont realize how depressed you are until you've actually experienced pure feeling of happiness)

First 5 days were great! first two was almost blissful! then it started dropping and was still great (no depression, really good mood, not constantly tired all the time, energetic) then by day 6 i realized those benefits were dropping then day 7-10 im back to almost feeling like my old self, tired all the time and no motivation. Im not depressed anymore which of course is great but my mood is how i describe as "blah"....im spending my saturday getting nothing done, spending all my time on the computer and laying on the couch watching movies.....

But i feel better after reading many many posts from other WB users and i now know what im going through its pretty normal.

A side note: I also have some anxiety issues prior to taking WB but it seemed to pretty much not exist that ive noticed.....i have felt more on edge over all since day 7......

Also, seems alot of people were instructed to take only 150mg per day for the first week???? Neither my doctor or pharmacist said anything about that and the pamphlet that came with the meds only said take twice daily......

But i guess since i havent noticed any side affects at all and only experienced what i mentioned above that i shouldnt be concerned.....

Anyway, it was nice to read everyones posts

Hi MezzaMorto and :hearts:,

I'm glad you found this forum helpful and that it eased some of your concerns. Without a doubt Wellbutrin can be challenging at the startup, but it seems overall you are doing well at the start. The honeymoon effect can be a big tease, but it's also a good sign that it may work for you after you settle in after the 6-8 weeks.

As for the 150 dose it's fairly common to start on this dose, but its up to your doctor to determine a good starting point. Since your on the sustained release version you are effectivly on 150 to start as each dose lasts about 6-8 hours.

Good luck and I hope things go smoothly for you!

Hi kiu6ywb,

:hearts: to DF and the Wellbutrin Forum,

Glad to hear the Zyban has made a difference for you in the early going. It can be a challenging medicine to start up on, so be sure to be patient if things swing around for you.

Our forum has plenty of information on Zyban from side effects to effectiveness so be sure to look around or post if you have questions.

Take Care,

Hello, I've been on wellbutrin for six weeks . The initial side effects were tough but now not so bad. I had the honeymoon period and I hope it comes back. I am trying to get off prozac and on lexapro. Tomorrow I drop the prozac another 10 mg and start 5 mgs of lexapro. I hope it works!

I hope this combo is the answer.

I'm in my fifties and have been on meds for three years, I probably should have been on them for a lot longer.

rainbows and butterflies,

:hearts: Nanabee,

Glad to have you in the Wellbutrin forum! Sounds like your on the right track with your initial startup on the Wellbutrin. Chances are if you got the initial honeymoon you will see some positive benefit from the medication, although probably not as intense as your initial honeymoon.

I myself am currently on a Wellbutrin/Lexapro combo and find it to be quite an effective combination for me. They seem to compliment each other quite well, so I hope you find the same to be true for you.

There is quite of bit of information here to look at, so take some time and look around. If you have questions you don't see answered feel free to start a topic and I'm sure our members will be happy to chime in with their experiences.

Take Care,

Darken

Welcome to the Wellbutrin forum!

Please tell us a little about yourself

Hello everyone on depressionforums.org. I'm a 19 year old male and I have just recently started taking Wellbutrin. I'm on 100mg/day and I'm on my 6th day. During these first six days I've experienced heavy feelings of anxiety and depression(more than before I started taking the drug) and also very restless sleeping. I dose at 7am and yet all through the night it feels as if my mind's engine is at full throttle. Thoughts racing here and there (mainly troublesome thoughts.) I hope that if I just wait it out, the drug will smooth out and I will feel a little more stable. Also I've noticed that when I do finally fall asleep at night I'm constantly having sexual dreams!!! this is not a bad thing lol but it's not normal to me. I don't feel all the more "sexually stimulated" during the day, but at night when I dream it's just like a non stop porno in my head!!!

:hearts: Shadowguy,

Wow sounds like you've had some intersting startup effect from the Wellbutrin...can't say I had dreams like that, but it sounds fun! :flowers: As you mayhave noticed if you have read around here on the forum, Wellbutrin can take a little while to settle into. It's not uncommon to have racing thoughts (good or bad), mood swings and elevated anxiety.

Many of these symptoms do disappate after time so as you've gathered patience is the key here. Take some time and read around, your sure to find other members who have experienced things similar to you and can perhaps as some insight and help while you are adjusting.

Good Luck.

I am new to this forum. Ihave been on prozac 40 mg for quite a few years and decided its not working. Low sex drive, over eating, depressed, no motivation. My doctor put me on Wellbutrin xl 150 mg. He wants me to take Prozac 20 mg and Wellbutrin together for 2 months. I also hopes it helps me quit smoking.

Hi NetteHunt :hearts:

Sorry the prozac was no good for you but here's hoping you have more luck with Wellbutrin. Take a look around the forum for a good idea of what to expect.

Welcome to the Wellbutrin forum!

Please tell us a little about yourself.

i went to a med doctor a bit over a week ago as suggested by my therapist - i have been on lexapro for anxiety/panic for about 5 years and feel like it would've been heaven sent to have taken it since i was a little kid . . .

past few months it has been pointed out to me that perhaps i am depressed - i think i must agree

i just started bupropion a week ago yesterday - first week was told to take 1 100mg(sustained release) in the morning . . .

then yesterday 2 of these 100mg pills in the morning (i take the lexapro at bedtime) -

i have experienced some of the side effects i've read about - constipation - but more recently i have felt more anxiety during the day - it's making me anxious thinking this just won't work - i had been able to not be so anxious for awhile, and it's reminding me of those times and worries me

i've read on some of these posts that perhaps some of these things diminish? is that true, and i should be hopeful or just bag this even though it's only been 9 days of use so far . . .

Hi Olivia :hearts:

With all of these types of meds it's important to give them enought time to work. They're strong stuff and your body doesn't get used to tem straight away. If you have any severe side effects then of course contact your doctor immediately but an increase in anxiety is normal in an initial start-up period. Side effects can last up to 8 weeks but if they still go on beyond that then you may have to consider that the med isn't right for you.

Hope you find it easier soon.

Welcome to the Wellbutrin forum!

Hi all, I started on bupropion close to two weeks ago. The first experience some 14 yrs ago wasn't very pleasant, with nightmares and splitting headaches. This time, much different. A 1 wk honeymoon and then a dropoff with no other side effects to speak of. I am a 56 yr old married man, father of two and grandfather of one. I have had depression since I was in my early teens. Off and on again but very bad the last 10 yrs. I have tried prozac which worked very, very well for a time then quite suddenly stopped working. So....I'm here and reading what I can and hoping that this drug will bring me back to the guy that I knew.

Heres to hope!

Hello!

I have been taking Cymbalta for several months, but have recently been feeling severely depressed. My doc added 150mg of Wellbutrin XL to my daily dose of 60mg of Cymbalta. This is my third day on the Wellbutrin and so far so good. I know it is supposed to take around two weeks to take effect, but I am already feeling much better, which may just be a placebo effect, but I'm ok with that! :)

Hi Ashley,

Glad you found the Wellbutrin gave you an immediate impact. The thing to remember is it may not last that long so don't be discouraged if it fades for awhile. In time as your body adjusts to the medicine you should start to feel good again, although maybe not with the intensity you are having now.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

HI Delicatedoll, welcome to DF! :hearts:

Are you taking the wellbutrin on its own or with the citalopram? It's a pain finding one to work isn't it? Fingers crossed for you with this one.

Welcome delicatedoll!

I am on a similar mix of Lexapro and Wellbutrin and have found it to be an excellent combination. Just give the Wellbutrin some time, it takes longer then most AD's to settle into your system, but once it does hopefully you will feel some improvement.

Hey gang. I'm new to this. I'm 32 years old. I hope to make some new friends and I hope that I can contribute as well. I haven't always had depression, but 2 years ago I went through the roughest patch of my life. Everything that could have possibly could go wrong went wrong. I'll spare the details because it almost seems like 10 lifetime movies wrapped up into the story of my life.

Before all this I was the happiest, most positive person I knew anyway. I had a large circle of friends. I was always the life of the party......Fast forward to now. I only talk to about two of those many friends that I had. I feel safe sitting in my room, I don't like being around people. I was once a social butterfly. I don't understand how I could have changed so much. I have a myspace (I know it a facebook kinda world now) that I used to keep up with everyone and I haven't looked at it in almost a year and a half. I never thought that I would be struck by depression.

That's my sob story. I hope to learn a lot here. I tried Wellbutrin in the past with no success.I've been trying to avoid medication. I knew people that are on all kinds of stuff and they just don't seem like themselves. I have an aquaintance that is always tired and just seems like a walking zombie. I Don't Want That, but I really need to do something to get over this. Are there any methods of curing or fighting depression without medication that anyone knows about? I would love to go that route instead.

I want to say thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello all,

I'm new to DF. I've been on Wellbutrin XL 300mg for just over a year now. Great stuff, I noticed a huge improvement in my quality of life last year. Symptoms started to come back though and the effectiveness wore off after a while, as well as some increased anxiety and some general anger, so I've recently just added Citalopram (Celexa) to the mix. Haven't been on it long enough to notice a big improvement though, it's only been 5 weeks.

I look forward to posting here and it's a pleasure meeting you all!

Hi I just started WB . I was reading very goos comments about it. I have tried 3 SSRIs before this. They all work on serotonin WB works on Dopamine so My Dr. thinks logicly if the Serotonin did nothing for me but make me feel worst. maybe WB ill work. its my 1st day so far nothing different yet. Iwas just wondering if anyone hd tken WB or any AD and it worked well for them, taht after 1 year or 2 they were able to stop completely and live a normal life again without takin an AD ever again? I am reading a lot of storied about how well WB it working , but none that say I am now off of the AD and feeling great I am cured. I dont want to tak an AD fr the rest of my life.

Also is WB safe if you are ahving a baby? I am male. I mean for the sperm? If wy wife and I want to get pregnant?

Hey welcome I m new here 2. I ahve tried the non med way. The only thing I know that may work for saome people is SAM-E . It may work for you. If it does let me know. I have tried thinking posotive, natural stuff, exercise, nothing has worked. I m now starting the WB. Will see if it works. I ahve tried 3 SSRIs before this with 0 success.

Hope the sam-e works for you. If not you may try an SSRI wellbutrin is not an SSRI but works on Dopamine . Maybe your problem is serotonin??
