Effects of Cymbalta?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I need some info on this for my dad. He has been taking Cymbalta for a week now(just about) and it is 60mg and today he woke up feeling very strange, crying, and feeling like he is having a breakdown. Is this just a side effect of getting used to the medication? Granted he has a high level of stress and trauma last night but I am wondering is it the meds or just the situation. Any answers of you guys experiences would be extremely helpful. Thank you all as usual for the support <3

I've been on Cymbalta for quite a while and during that 5+ year time I went off completely for about 1 year (because of weight gain).  Both times I started Cymbalta  I started with 30 mg and moved up to 60 mg after a week.  If your dad started at 60 mg I would think he could feel worse than a bit out of sorts.  I have, during the first 4 years of Cymbalta been on the highest dose of 90 mg which helped lower my depression immensely.  Back to starting up with the stuff. I personally had instant effects from the first week on Cymbalta, both good and not so good.  For the most part, now that I have done it twice, I would suggest that for me the sadness or crying did not stop immediately but over a period of months. 2 months and you will likely see the full effects.  The second time I started Cymbalta I had instant sexual dysfunction  (or so I thought) at 30 mg. When I moved up to 60 mg I completely lost my ability to orgasm.  I eventually (after begging my psychiatrist) got an additional prescription for Bupropion (Wellbutrin) 300 XL for increased sexual benefits.  The Wellbutrin has been a flop for the sex but a positive boost for energy and upbeat mood.  I'm now taking 30mg Cymbalta and 300 Wellbutrin.
