Hi, I am wondering if anyone else has experiences the complete shutdown of their sexual function on this drug, and had it not return?  I discontinued this drug and still cannot experience and sexual pleasure, no build-up, no arousal, no orgasm, nothing even close.  I think  this is permanent.  Has anyone else experienced long lasting sexual effects after quitting this medication?   Has anyone experienced lasting effects that improved eventually, or not?

Hi, sexual dysfunktion is a common side effect by this drug. It's very frequently.

No worry, the drug has long-term-effect, i think the "problem" may last max 1-2 weeks after discontinue.

In the most cases everything will come right again.

Wrong. I'm 2 months off Prozac and my sexual function is gone. I noticed its much worse after coming off the damn drug. I feel completely numb down there. Not only that, I have no interest in the opposite sex whatsoever. Another guy in another forum was 6 months off Prozac and still no signs of improving. There is something called PSSD.

This is the problem with anti-depressants and generally drugs... they have many side effects and drugs are generally very harmful for the body. But there is a chance to regain the sexuality over time... so don´t give up.

They should have to mention the possibility that these pills can destroy you sexually on their commercials but that will never happen because they would definitely lose money which is all they really care about.  They know their product will destroy some lives but they don't care at all.  Just as long as they keep making money they don't care what happens to people.  Usually if you get something positive from the meds mentally you'll probably suffer in some way physically so in the long run if you think about the whole picture you most likely don't gain much of anything.

Have you had this on your own as well as with a partner? It would probably be worth going to a sexual health clinic as well, they should be able to help you.

Hi LovelessGirl :)

Please stay away from anti-depressants in the future. They are dangerous and don't help anyway.

My guess is that your dopamine levels are depleted. They create feelings of pleasure or being rewarded. I believe they can be replenished so try not to worry. Your body has miraculous healing abilities so you just have to give it the right support.

Do a google search for restoring dopamine naturally. Things like eating healthier, exercise and meditation are very good. Especially meditation since it has a very restorative effect on the brain and all the chemicals within it.

Supplements will help too so do some research and compile a short list of the best ones to take to replenish dopamine.

Go to consumerlabs.com and sign up for their newsletter. You'll get 24 hour free access to their reports. Find out which brands have the best quality supplements for what you want to take.

Please let me know if this helps :)

I agree completely because if this happened with one of the anti-depressants it will probably happen with them all.  You can play the game forever or listen to the 2 of us and get your life back.  I agree with the diet and exercise thing.  I do it every day and it works perfectly.  I feel better doing that than I ever did taking any medication.

Please take this to your doctor and make him fill out a yellow card reporting form for PSSD

http://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/drugs-and-treatments/antidepressants/side-effects-of-antidepressants/#se

Sometimes these side effects persist after you've come off the drug, and might continue indefinitely. If you experience this you might want to report it on a Yellow Card.”

Anti depressants help a lot of people, just because they didn't work for you does not mean they do not work.

Yes they do help some people but they also harm a lot of people. They should only be used as a last resort. There are much more safer, effective more natural ways to alleviate depression. It's not wise to jump right to man made drugs without trying those other options first.

Hurting a lot of people is a stretch. If taken properly and weened off properly very few people will be 'hurt' by them.

No It's not a stretch, every time I come on this forum there's someone making a post about a bad side effect or they're worse off from before they were taking the drug. Google 'anti-depressant harm' and there's hundreds of testimonials of people who have been harmed by them.

I don't know why you're so convinced they are so harmless

They are not completely harmless but they do tend to have side effects and people need to realize that.

The information I've read says that 60% of people are helped by the first anti-depressant they try.  Forums like this don't necessarily give an accurate picture of meds because the people who come here tend to be the ones (like me) the meds haven't worked for (and I've tried dozens), or who've had problems.  It's fairly rare, from everything I've read, for people to have sexual side effects long after discontinuing the med.  I would suggest to try some stimulation with a very high arousal level (like pornography) and see if the problem persists.  If it does, seek medical attention.  By the way, I am not advocating regular use of porn as I believe it causes problems (for more information, google "your brain on porn).  But it helped me when a med I was on caused anorgasmia.

I was on a different ssri Zoloft from 2011-2014 and I totally lost my sex drive on it. It's been 3 years off of it now and it hasn't came back at all. This is probably not what you want to hear, but just my story. I hope it comes back for you eventually. And myself as well!
