I can't take the insomnia and everyone of these drugs just make me feel numb yet I can still feel the depression. With the doctors lack of knowledge on depression I don't know what I can do next
HopeButterfly
Are you on a high enough dose to be therapeutic? I'm on sertraline also for the past 8 weeks. My doctor had me on only 75 mgs. I had to tell her that wasn't working, so she lifted it up to 150 mgs. I think this will work for me. Sertraline may not be the right medication for you. It sounds like you've given it a good try. Is it possible for you to see a psychiatrist who knows more about psychiatric medications?
smithci
I'm on 100mg and he won't put me higher than that.. Anyway that'll just mean stronger side effects. It's pretty much impossible to see a psychiatrist in the UK.
Angie85
Hey! Not sure whereabouts in the UK you live but if you've tried several meds and nothing's working your GP should be able to refer you to your community mental health team. There are other options you could try that can only be prescribed by a psychiatrist (antidepressant combinations, mood stabilizers, etc...); you should explain how you're feeling and mention that you're not gettig any relief and would like to be referred to a specialist, unfortunately sometimes you need to ask, some doctors are not very understanding and just prescribe tablets hoping you won't go back! The waiting list might be long depending on where you live but you should be able to see a psychiatrist on the NHS! smithci
I was referred to a psych once but I just gave up asking because I never heard anything. I just don't think I can take anymore meds and side effects. I never had suicidal feelings until I started trying meds
Angie85
Sorry to hear that :(I know, that happens a lot and it's a pain, you get referred somewhere, they tell you that you will get a letter but you never do then you kinda forget about it and never chase it up so nothing happens. It's happened to me so many times! It's so frustrating and it's the last thing you need if you're already feeling awful and have no motivation. You just end up thinking 'what's the point'?I think it's worth chasing it up or getting another referral though, seeing a specialist could really help you. I finaly got to see a psychiatrist a couple of years ago when life just became unbearable and things have improved so much since.
smithci
I wish I could just sleep properly I have to take an anti histamine sleeping pill every other night or my mood seriously drops if I don't sleep.. Then I end up crying my eyes out Why the hell did they give me such a stimulating drug when sleep has always been a big issue for me
Tvrdi
Look, if you are having suicidal thoughts on ADs then You should go to Your doctor right now. She should definitely send You to a psyhiatrist. I can't even understand how can regular family doctors be authorised to prescribe antidepressants. Where i come from this is not the case.
