  1. Hello to all, I have been on Effexor since the mid 90's. To be more specific, Effexor 150 mg XR since it came out. I also take Clorazepate for anxiety, the need for both several years after returning from Vietnam. The last few years I have noticed what started as not feeling the same to where I am now. I have no interest in anything, no ambition no nothing. I rarely smile and know I am down from the minute I get up until when I go to bed. It's not like I don't want to live but more like I don't care one way or the other. In fact if it weren't for my wife and my dog I really wouldn't have any reason to try and fight this. My real question is it's been close to 30 years since I started the Effexor, I had been on a couple of other antidepressants over the years before the Effexor but they either didn't work at all, or their effect wore off. The last one I was on that worked for some time was Nortriptyline which I took until it too started to stop working and Effexor (the regular type before the XR) came out. At first I took the regular Effexor 3 times a day and when the XR came out it was like I had a whole new life. I lead a wonderful productive and happy life all these years and now I've bottomed out to no life. So I'm curious, in all those years Effexor worked for me were there any new advanced medications that were coming out over those 30 years that anyone has had noticeable and enjoyable life changing outcomes with? I will be seeing my doctor this week after all this time, I guess it took me this long to get tired of waking up each morning wondering if todays is the day I die, that thought is always on my mind, even if just in the back. I apologize for being so long winded here and for my lack of communication skills but I thought I would ask here for any help anyone might be able to offer. Thank you to anyone who might have any information to share with me.
  2. Does anyone still use the brand name Tranxene? Not talking about the generic (Clorazepate) but the actual brand. If so where are you finding it? I used it for many years and it worked perfectly for me but when it went generic the generic never worked the same and I was switched to Xanax. AFter 20 years of Xanax I asked to go back the Tranxene even though I can't find it and am stuck with the Clorazepate (which is still better for me than Xanax) again. Anyone know if it's still produced and where I can find it? Thanks, Bill

  4. Hello, After close to 20 years on Effexor (was on many others for 10 years or so) my depression has returned. I've been trying (under doc's care) several other meds with the Effexor. The latest is Cymbalta and while I thought it was maybe helping, it's just dropped off now and I feel worse after 4-5 months. So I'm curious if anyone else is using both Effexor and Zoloft with any success? I also take Xanax for my anxiety. In all honesty after 30+ years, I would have rather gone without an arm or leg than having to deal with depression, anxiety and PTSD. Thanks for any help, Bill
  5. Hello to all, I started Cymbalta 2 months ago (20mg) to try and help after my Effexor (150mg) seem to stop working after 25 years or so. The first 6-7 weeks was fine taking both in the AM, except it wasn't doing anything, good or bad. My doctor just increased me to 30 mg and changed the time to evening since first thing in the morning is when I'm at my worst. It's been about a week now and I actually thought I was improving yesterday. Than around mid day today I started getting a shaky and kind of trembling feeling. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm thinking of skipping my dose tonight and possibly taking it around noon tomorrow if the symptoms are gone in the morning. Again even though I've read all kinds of info on side effects, I was just curious to hear from someone first hand who might have experienced this. Thanks, Bill
  6. Well my doc decided to continue the Lexapro with the Effexor for another month. She had planned on changing to Cymbalta with my Effexor this week but she wanted to give the higher dosage of Lexapro another month. The Xanax does it for my anxiety also, but this dam depression s__ks! Whoops, can you say that here???
  7. rmp67r, I'll let you know. I am not supposed to start it until next week. I'm currently being weaned of Lexapro which she wanted to see how I responded to that with the Effexor. After 3 months I didn't really notice any change pro or con using Lexapro with the Effexor. So we'll see how this works out, I'll keep you posted. For me it's really discouraging because I had done so well for at least 12-15 years on the Effexor before it started losing it's effect. After reading other comments here (more so in the Effexor forum) I just wish I knew at what point I was switched from the Effexor Xr to the generic version. I would be curious if that coincided in any way with the point at which my Effexor (or Venlafaxine) started to lessen it's affects on me.
  8. Hi Jim, Thank you for your response. I've been on depression meds for 30 years now, and I've kind of lost track of what's available now. Plus as you mentioned I see more and more of the use of several meds together. I'm hoping that this combination will get me back to where I was when I first started Effexor so many years ago. Thanks again for your response. Bill
  9. Hello to all, I'm a new poster here so please forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask. I have been under treatment for anxiety and depression since to early 80 's. Been through most every type of medication over that time. Many years ago (so long I can't remember, but it was before there was an XR version) I was started on Effexor. It worked fine for many years, great in fact when the XR version came out. But the last few years it seems to have lost it's effect on my depression. My doc has suggested adding Cymbalta along with my Effexor (150mg XR a day). I also take Xanax for my anxiety and that remains under control. So my question is, has anyone used Effexor and Cymbalta with any positive results? Thank you, Bill Note: I have posted this in the Effexor forum also
