  1. Hello- I have terrible chronic dry eyes and I'm hoping to find an anti-depressant that won't make the dry eyes worse. Did anyone find that Zoloft caused your dry eyes or if it made your current dry eyes worse? Or, does anyone with a current dry eye condition find that Zoloft DIDN'T make them worse? I have tried both Celexa and Lexapro, both of which made the eyes worse (unbearably so). I have also tried Pristiq. Pristiq actually helped the depression/anxiety AND didn't make the dry eyes worse. However, I was so incredibly dizzy on Pristiq that I had to discontinue. :( Anyone out there on Zoloft with a previous condition of dry eyes?? Thank you for your help.
  2. Hello - I have terrible, chronic dry eyes and had this condition before taking anti-depressants. I recently went off Pristiq due to extreme dizziness (although, it did lift my depression and wasn't terrible on my eyes). I am now starting Lexapro (5mg at first, then upping to 10mg). Within a few hours of taking Lexapro, I noticed my dry eyes getting much worse (unbearably so). This also happened on my 2nd week of Celexa, too. Couldn't tolerate the painful dry eyes. Has anyone found that the dryness goes away with Lexapro? I'm trying to decide if I should wait another couple of weeks of potential dry-eye hell (coupled with the terrible depression/anxiety), or switch to something else. Are there any other anti-depressants that are less "drying"? Any experiences out there? I so wish that the Pristiq didn't cause me such terrible dizziness... Thank you so much for your help.
  3. Hello - I recently went off Pristiq due to extreme dizziness (although, it did lift my depression) and now I am starting Lexapro (5mg at first, then upping to 10mg). I currently have dry eye syndrome and within a few hours of taking Lexapro, I noticed my dry eyes getting much worse (unbearably so). This also happened on my 2nd week of Celexa, too. Couldn't tolerate the painful dry eyes. Has anyone found that the dryness goes away with Lexapro? I'm trying to decide if I should wait another couple of weeks of potential dry eye hell, or switch to something else. Pristiq, by the way, did not make my dry eyes worse. In fact, I thought the eyes slightly improved on the med. It's such a shame that it made me so terribly dizzy all of the time. Please, any suggestions? thank you.
  4. The itchy feet, dizziness, and muscle aches finally went away after about 6 weeks off of Pristiq. However, it's now been 8 weeks and I still feel fatigued, having crazy crying spells, heart racing when I'm not even thinking or doing anything, and my menstrual cycle is royally messed up. Ugh. This has been the worst experience of my life. Hoping I will feel "normal" again after this.
  5. Just wanted to give an update on the Pristiq withdrawal. It's been 6 weeks since I stopped Pristiq after only taking the medication 7 weeks (and tapering 2 weeks), and I can finally say that I'm no longer dizzy! I started to feel more human around Week 4 or 5. At this point, I am still an emotional roller-coaster though, my menstrual cycle is really screwed up (one every 2 weeks), and my dry eyes are worse now. But thank goodness the dizziness went away!! Hopefully the hormonal imbalance will straighten itself out, too. While on Pristiq, I always had some degree of dizziness which is what let me to get off the medication. Thanks again for everyone's support and hang in there for those who going through this exact same thing! One day at a time and try to stay distracted.

  7. Did anyone experience worsening exhaustion, dizziness, and muscle aches towards the late afternoon/evening as you were going through Effexor/Pristiq withdrawal? I'm on week 4, and I'm wondering if this is still from the withdrawal period or if this is something else. I may be dealing with thyroid issues as well, so the symptoms could be confusing. Thank you for any feedback that you might have.
  8. Good news! It's been 3 weeks and still experiencing dizziness, fatigue, out-of-sorts...However, last night I took Dramamine and 5-HTP and I feel MUCH better today! Definitely less dizzy and more like myself! I will continue to take 5-HTP for a while and will assess the dizziness day-by-day and take Dramamine as needed. Not sure which one is really helping, but I plan to take both for a little while until things get better.
  9. Good news! It's been 3 weeks since stopping Pristiq and still feeling the dizziness, complete exhaustion and mental confusion (also having weird feet itching - not sure why). However, I took Dramamine last night (from the advice of someone else suffering AD withdrawal and dizziness) and it has helped TREMENDOUSLY. I feel less dizzy, not as tired, and more like myself. I also took 5-HTP last night as well, so perhaps, I'm feeling better because of that, or a combo of both. But I really think it was the Dramamine. My plan is to monitor the dizziness every day and take Dramamine as needed. Good luck to all!
  10. Hello- This may sound strange, but has anyone else noticed itchy feet at night when taking or withdrawing from Effexor or Pristiq? Could this be a side effect?? I have been having itchy feet at night since about the time I started Pristiq. It's mainly at night and drives me crazy when trying to sleep. It's only around the bottoms and sides of my heels (never toes) and I don't have any dryness/flaking/peeling and nothing that looks like a foot fungus. I have tried rubbing anti-itch creams like Cortizone 10 and Lotrimin AF, but it doesn't help. Has anyone heard of this? I'm wondering what this could be from... Thanks!
  11. Thanks so much, Hircon. I actually took Dramamine yesterday and it definitely seems to be helping with the dizziness.
  12. Thanks for sharing your time frame. I spoke with my doctor last week and all he could say was that withdrawal symptoms should last about 1 week. I think he is not informed about Effexor/Pristiq withdrawal.
  13. Ugh!! It has now been 3 WEEKS since taking my last pill (Pristiq - but basically Effexor). I was feeling dizzy for the 7 weeks I was on it, so I decided to taper off for two weeks. It has now been 3 WEEKS and I am more dizzy than before, feel stoned, having some memory problems, and have extreme exhaustion. I am so worried because it feels like it isn't getting much better (maybe only 2% better). Can anyone share how long it took them before withdrawal symptoms subsided? I've tried Benadryl, but it only seems to make me even more sleepy. I just feel like I'm going to be *stuck* this way or that I'm permanently brain damaged. I keep telling myself "you will get through this", but I've been saying this for 5 weeks since tapering. Thanks for relating.
  14. Thanks Illusion. The support is helpful. I feel that is what I need is some sort of support group for Effexor/Pristiq withdrawal. It's been 3 weeks. Still very dizzy, extremely exhausted, and very emotional. The exhaustion is so bad that I feel like I've been hit with a truck. After 3 weeks, I don't even think I have seen any improvement. Ugh!
  15. Thanks. I guess I just wish I could get some reassurance (or other testimonials from others) that what I'm experiencing is from coming off of Pristiq. I believe it is, but I'm also experiencing some hypo-thyroid-type symptoms and my doctor tells me that any withdrawal symptoms should only last a week. This is what I know: when I started Pristiq, I was very dizzy. Week by week, dizziness lessened, but yet by Week 7, I was still experiencing dizziness, but only in the evening. At the point, I decided to wean off of it. Once I started tapering, dizziness got worse, and now that I'm totally off of it (17 days now), I am still very dizzy, light-headed, and very tired. Would really love to hear from others if they had a similar experience. I just feel very afraid that it won't go away. :verysad3:
  16. Thanks, Joy and Jim Bow. This puts me at some ease! Joy, I'm sorry you are experiencing this, too, but it's good we can support one another and share experiences. My GP knew that I was tapering and this was the method he suggested (1 every other day for a week, then 1 every two days for a week, and so on). I only tapered for 2 weeks because I was doing ok then. I have to say the exhaustion and irritable mood has been better the last day or two, but I'm still incredibly dizzy. I actually haven't experienced much depression/anxiety at all since tapering and being off of it. Cross fingers. I just wish this dizziness would go away. BTW, when I followed up with my GP this week, he said Pristiq withdrawal symptoms normally last a week after the last pill. I think he doesn't know what he is talking about... Anyone else with similar withdrawal symptoms?
  17. Ugh!! I was taking 50 mg Pristiq for about 7 weeks for anxiety/depression. I was feeling dizzy while on it, so I decided to taper off Pristiq. I tapered for about 1 1/2 weeks (one pill every other day, then 1 every two days). It has now been 2 weeks since taking my last pill. I am extremely dizzy, foggy, head-achey, irritable/angry and have extreme exhaustion. It feels like it's not getting better. How long can I expect this to last?? I have heard it could last 2-3 weeks. Can anyone share how long it took them before withdrawal symptoms subsided? Thanks for your help!!
  18. Oh, thank you, Hircon and jimbow15. This is good to know. It's been 8 days since my last pill, and the dizziness/tiredness is even worse today. It's very confusing right now, since my doctor and I believe that (based on a laundry-list of symptoms)that I *may* have sub-clinical hypothyroidism that is not showing up in the blood-work. Dizziness/tiredness is also a symptom. Maybe I should wait another week and see if the dizziness goes away... I guess I'm wondering if there are others who had this experience. Thanks again for replying.
  19. Ugh. I was taking 50 mg Pristiq for about 7 weeks for anxiety/depression. I was feeling dizzy while on it (could also be from a sinus problem I have been having or possibly something else - who knows), so I decided to taper of Pristiq to rule it out. I took a pill every other day for 1 week. I was doing ok with withdrawal side effects, so I went to one every 2 days. I did ok with that after 4 days, so I stopped completely. Now, 7 days after I took my last pill, I am experiencing alot of dizziness and I'm so very tired. Has anyone else experienced this type of dizziness from withdrawing Pristiq? If so, how long did it last for you? I'm sort of freaking out because I was doing fine tapering off and it has been 7 days since my last pill and I'm just now feeling really terrible. I guess I'm wondering if it is from the Pristiq or if it something else. Thank you!
  20. Hello - I'm wondering if anyone on Pristiq has noticed dizziness occurring right before it is time to take the next dose? I have been taking Pristiq around 7pm and I have noticed more dizziness starting around 6pm. Thanks!
  21. Thanks, csh and Ronnie. If you don't mind, how long have you been on Pristiq and how long before you noticed some of the dizziness to go away or improve? Is Pristiq helping you with depression/anxiety? I'm trying to give it a full 6-8 weeks to see if I'm feeling better with anxiety/depression. Thanks again.
  22. I'm on Day 16 of Pristiq, and I'm experiencing dizziness when I move my head fast or moving quite fast. It feels like I have been on a boat all day and its driving me nuts. It is also worse as the day goes on. I'm also experiencing ear fullness/post nasal drip from a really bad cold I had 6 weeks ago. The dizziness started right about the time I started Pristiq and right about the time I noticed the ear fullness, so I'm not sure what is causing it. My mood has lifted (some) with Pristiq and I haven't noticed any other side effects, so I'm reluctant to stop it to determine if the dizziness is or is not from the medication. I went to an ENT and he told me that the dizziness is probably from the congestion in the ear and that I should wait 6 weeks to see if it clears up. Ugh. Anyone else experience this type of dizziness with Pristiq? If so, did it eventually go away? Again, I'm not sure if what I'm experiencing is from the Pristiq or from my ear fullness/post nasal drip. Thx!
  23. Hello - I'm new here and I have also just starting taking 10 mg Celexa (on Day 9). Just looking for encouragement, I guess, because I want to continue with the medication, but the side effects have been awful. Anxiety and depression much worse. Heart is racing, especially when I wake up in the morning. I'm taking .5 mg of Ativan to help with the anxiety, but then I'm a complete zombie. Did anyone notice the heart-racing stuff disappear after a while? I"m trying to stick through the first rough weeks, but it is has been so awful. I think I won't take the 20 mg until the side effects of 10mg are more manageable. Thanks to all, and I'm so glad there is a forum like this. Hugs!
