I took Remeron once. Gave me intense dreams. The first morning after, I was so dizzy I couldn't work! I eventually came off it because I was gaining weight. Couldn't pass the convenience store without popping in for a candy bar.

I would look for another psychiatrist. You don't start taking an antidepressant because you might get insomnia. That's irresponsible medicine.

Hey, I feel you on this, I've been on it about 3 months now, still feel a lot dumber than I was without it. Helps with my anxiety and I guess I'm not super crazy, but it makes it super hard to focus and think straight. I used to have my mind run a million miles a minute and now it feels like I'm dragging my feet through honey to get to what I want to say. Even when I do talk it comes out kinda lacking in substance. I also feel lightheaded when I'm just walking around. I take 7.5 mg but I have hypersensitivity to medication.

Day 22. I feel great today and felt great through most of yesterday--better than I have in a while. One reason for that is that my sexual dysfunction has really cleared up. Part of the reason I sought treatment was because my relationship with my wife was severely strained. Many issues were helped when the medication alleviated my depression symptoms, but the sexual dysfunction maintained other issues. I expected Cipralex to cause some dysfunction, but thought Remeron would be okay. But it seems that it was also partly to blame. (Granted I am also on Wellbutrin right now, which often helps with sexual dysfunction as well.) Anyway, sorry if this is TMI, but along with the emotional aspects of our relationship, it's great to be getting back to a "normal" physical relationship as well.

I should add that I do still believe the Remeron helped me considerably and I would try it again if I felt I needed it. But it did also cause some side effects that are clearing up now I'm off.

Day 19. Still feel good. One unexpected change I've noticed is that I'm eager to exercise. I've always maintained a regular exercise schedule, but for the last couple of years it's been a chore and I've generally had to force myself to do it. These days I look forward to it and I feel great afterwards! Seems like something about the Remeron dampened my natural positive response to exercise.

Day 8. I felt like crap much of the day yesterday. Today I am extremely anxious, but that's because of some that's happening in my personal life (terrible timing, really). In terms of withdrawal, I think things are going okay. Still don't feel great, but I don't have a headache today!

Day 6. So, later in the day yesterday I had a few hours where I was pretty nauseous and felt just generally crappy. I would've just gone and laid down but I had dinner plans and went ahead with them anyway. And I ate and drank some alcohol despite feeling a bit queasy and it was probably the best thing to do.
This morning I felt a bit rotten too, particularly after I ate. But just went out on my bike for an hour and am feeling pretty good now. Advil helped too.

Day 5, feel quite good, really. I have more energy than I used to. I am waking up early, which I haven't been doing for a while because on Remeron I have to drag myself out of bed. I haven't had a headache even today. I had some heightened anxiety and feeling just sort of "off" yesterday--and periodically on other days--but nothing major and it typically only lasts an hour or two.

Day 2: Took a couple of Advil this morning and feel good so far. Better sleep last night, but I am back to being a pretty light sleeper.

Okay, so I went entirely without Remeron last night in order to start my drop from 3.75 mg to 0 mg. I didn't really expect to notice anything, though I do have a slight headache today and more pronounced tinnitus. I also had a fitful sleep--not insomnia, but I was awake more often than normal and it took longer to fall asleep.

I'm glad my posts might be of some use, 5ZVP. I hadn't heard of Seriphos, sounds interesting. Anything that counteracts Cortisol is likely to be quite useful! And even if it is the placebo effect, as you said, who cares? I hope things continue to go well for you.

Just as an update, I feel great today. As with the previous decrease in dose, I have more energy overall and motivation too. It appears that the anxiety/negativity I experienced earlier this week were blips associated with withdrawal. In a couple of weeks I'll cut out the 3.75 mg and try going off Remeron completely. I haven't experienced any rebound insomnia at all so far.

Well, it's been not quite 2 weeks since I dropped the dose and I am feeling more tired, irritable, cold, and negatively. Not sure how much of that to chalk up to daylight savings and a disrupted sleep schedule. Seeing now that it hasn't been quite 2 weeks makes me think that it's likely related to the tapering. Hopefully it will pass before too long. Not unmanageable, but it does make me worry that it's a consequence of not getting enough coverage for my symptoms now on a lower dose. Time will tell.

Overall, less tired and more energetic. But I do still have periods, especially in the early evening, when I'm dead tired. Of course, that might have something to do with having young kids and working full-time. I'm up at 6am every day.
As for my taper, I really have had only a few mild reactions to tapering down to 3.75 from 7.5 mg and I'm a week in. Much easier than the drop from 15 mg to 7.5 mg, which might reflect the fact that it's less of a decrease in dose, but also likely the fact that I was at 15 mg for almost 2 years so it was a significant change.

Such symptoms have occurred with me too on days around about six months after being put on Mirtazapine 15 mg. So yeah, there could be, could be a connection between it and your symptoms.

Well, here I am December 31st and still havent come off Remeron. In fact, I am back on 15mg and my prescribing doc wants me to try wellbutrin since my depression has gotten worse; i.e. taking both wellbutrin with remeron. In a bit of a pickle; hopeful to get off all meds at some point. I took wellbutrin the first two days (saturday and sunday) and just feel anxious and emotionless.

Markovcred got a reaction from MargotMontage in Increasing dose to 30 mg from 15mg; what have you experienced?
My psychiatrist thinks that my 15mg dosage isnt cutting it as I have been having more depressed/stinking thinking (thoughts of self-harm, intense pessimism, dreadful fear, etc) . She suggested that I take 30 mg. I told her I wasn't comfortable with this since I had never taken that much before. What have others experienced? Is there less sedation during the day? Any weird side effects? I realized everyone's brain chemistry is different but looking for general feedback to make me feel better.

    Thanks!

I am coming off of remeron after being on it for 10 weeks.  I started taking it to help with insomnia with I’ve had for years.
I am now down to 7.5mg at night which I have been taking with Benadryl and melatonin. I have been looking into natural and legal insomnia treatments like CBN(cannabis based but no THC) but they are very expensive.
My question to the forum is how can I normalize my sleep naturally without any meds with crazy side effects? Is it really as simple as proper sleep hygiene? Without fail, if I don’t have a sleep med, I spend at least one night per week sleeping close to 0 or 1 hours at night. I’ve gotten sleep studies and no signs of apnea. How do I conquer my sleep issues ?!

@Floor2017 thank you for the reply! I have not been able to come off remeron as easily as I would like. Prescribing psych wants me to stay on until school is over (work full time and full time school until january 31).
In terms of staying busy, I have way too much on my plate and I usually try to unwind myself...the jacuzzi has helped. I am quite anxious about coming off of this though.

@clumpen thank you for the recommendation I will look this up. If ever need to chat offline, let me know.

Hi! I've been on remeron for almost 3 years, started right at 30 mg. I've geighned a ton almost 40 lbs. I used to be a great speller and now I find myself misspelling words alot, also Im at a constant loss for words and my motivation level has completely depleted even when I take an adderal which used to get my entire home cleaned. I hate this drug with every fiber of my being and have been weaning myself off of it for a cpl months now. I'm now at 7.5 mg a day and I see a slight decrease in my monstrous appetite, thank God! Has anyone else observed these side affects??

Hi, not sure if this actually works but its part of my sleep routine (also using remeron and melatonin), Bach's rescue remedy for sleep. its very hippy flowery but I find it helps enough in not extreme situations.
I also really want to try cbd but you are right its suuuuper pricey.

Try to wear your self out doing things around the house before bed and don’t eat a couple hours before bed.  This will help you to get a decent sleep hopefully.  Best of luck my friend
