I understand, Mark. Seems like you have this well thought out. It is always good to prepare to not be on this earth anymore as we all have to face that. I wish I could make it better for you to stay around longer as you will be very missed. My prayers go with you. Thanks for trusting us with this.

@nojoy I’m so sorry for all you are going through. It brings tears to my eyes. Oh how I wish things to get better for you. To be doing so well and then to be knocked down so hard is just the worst. I’ll keep you in my prayers.

I want to give up worrying about what I can't control or about the future. Also I want to let go of negative thoughts and not rent them space in my head.

I'm not sure I see how the one is necessarily the cause of the other. Humans are social animals.
I think you're on to something about different categories. Mental illness can mean an event-triggered disorder like a trauma or it can mean chemical production deficiencies in the brain or mean a number of other things. Thats a big umbrella. I think looking for a cause in one or even two factors won't be enough to encompass all the classified mental illnesses.

I’m not sure.  What I DO know is that it sure as sh!t isn’t getting any better.  Cynical?  Maybe.  Realistic?  Almost certainly.

I lack sufficient insight to offer an opinion.  There seems to be both a lack of information in my mind and too much information and I can't seem to sort it all out.
Right now I am thinking of a quotation from the ancient philosopher, Aristotle:  "An opinion is one part of a contradiction that a person holds while having some fear that the other side of the contradiction might be true."
Although I haven't really formed an opinion on this issue, I can definitely see the points the others have made and appreciate learning them!

7 billion people is a lot. Counting to 1 billion takes over 30 years non-stop.
So the illnesses are getting more common, because of genetics (having children), increased lifespan, knowledge about them, new subtypes and variations and the like etc.

My mother had some form of delusional disorder and PTSD; my father had a political schizophrenia diagnosis. That's back in the Soviet Union.
But nothing was reported, because the Soviet Union was pure. Mental illness is a 1st world thing.
I've heard a lot of people were ill back then too; but they were hidden by shame.

    But now I'm just ranting...

Question: Are they getting more common.
    Answer: In my view, yes.

" Millions of people floating in the ether with no purpose", I dont agree with this at all, most people I see are all with a porpouse, i mean, they know what they want, and they are doing it ! They dont have any kind of existential problem at all, they enjoy life and thats it, they just live and try their best to live good.
I think some people have that kind of thought that people "are falling apart of each other", etc, but no, some yes, others (the majority), no !!!
About if mental issues are getting worse... Maybe, i dont know.

Wow, what a subject and I think that the world is not as bad as it might seem to be.  It actually is probably
the same because there is nothing new under the sun.  However, like others have said it's the social media
and advance technology that constantly keep it before us and that make things seem as if they are worse
    than other generations before us.
The key to all of this is try to just live your life and not to concentrate on all the news around you.

Is the world really worse though or does the constant technology make it seem that way?  Really before the internet you went about your day and heard about the news on the evening news.  You were able to forget about it and go on with your life.  Now it's always there any time we want to look and they never want us to think things are good out there.  Chaos brings in the money for them.

I believe the most difficult part is facing this horrible situation alone, no one really understands what you are facing and believe that you are being dramatic and seeking attention.
I'm trying to keep myself occupied but don't really know what I should be doing. Everyone seems to have a purpose in life except me and that just makes me more terrified of the future.
I found salvation in prayer, but I get back to where I am afterwards.
I really know in the bottom of my heart that I can win this war but just need a breakthrough in my life.

Hello @Na15. I read your narrative and I'm very sorry about the unfortunate event which seems to have triggered the decline in your mental health. It takes courage to put your problems out where others will see them and I want you to know I think you did a good job turning your insides out.
Maybe belonging to this community will help reduce some of your feelings that everyone has surpassed you or that you're broken. We can try to remind you that feelings aren't facts. It's nice to know that you found inspiration in what you've read here, thank you for letting us know that.
It can get much better. Healing the mind, body and soul requires experimenting, curiosity, learning what works for you. It's a fascinating and exciting undertaking! For me it involved rediscovering or reclaiming bits of myself that were taken, lost.
Acceptance is absolutely a component in recovery: Who I am now is acceptable and worthy of love and as I continue to improve I will still be just as acceptable and worthy of love. Can you feel any truth to that statement?
I'm not able to give you answers but I hope I can support you where you're at in your journey.

Welcome! Thanks for being brave enough to reach out to us and share what is going on. I find depression can do awful things to my thinking and attitude that are hard for me to overcome without help and support. So don't be hard on yourself. Depression can be an illness that you didn't cause. Negative thoughts are part of this illness. Yet it can get better. So don't lose hope. Many of us find it easier to pretend we are okay because others just don't understand. We are here to support you as best we can. So keep reading and posting. It may take awhile to get responses as we all have a lot going on. So please hang in there with us.
