That is a good question, another thing is, fictional characters are always just diferent from regular people. Seriously, try to find a person in your life that acts like a fictional character you've read about. Probably not the answer you were hoping for, but I wonder about it too.

Most celebrities are acting all the time.  We've never seen who they really are.  I respect the ones that I believe were their true selfs as celebrities and also remind me of how I would be as a celebrity.  Johnny Cash, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Marilyn Monroe, Chris Farley.  I would be something like one of them I'm sure.

I totally respect your view of your situation and your life.  I would point out one thing you might not have had the chance to see exactly because it is not from your perspective.
Even if you are absolutely right about your children's  feelings about you at the time you observed them, it does not mean that is their 'always and forever' feelings.  Sixty seconds before or after that moment could have been (and continue to be) completely different.  'Parent' is the strongest and most solid relationship anyone ever has.  As such, 'parent' is the person we each struggle against to become our own person -- to get out of their shadow; to discover what part(s) of our childhood self to embrace and what part(s) to leave behind; etc.  Unfortunately, some of that struggle is always difficult and sometimes painful for all involved.  With very rare and extreme exceptions, children need their parents all their lives regardless of whether or not they admit it -- even to themselves.  FYI -- I am in my late 50s and my parents are in their 80s.  Also, I observed my parents interact with their parents in my grandparents later years.  Unless you can prove that either you or your children are sociopathic serial killers (or something equally extreme), you have not failed as a parent.  You have probably made some mistakes (just like 100% of the rest of the parents), but that hardly makes you a failure.

@AloneGuy, sorry it took so long to get that comment up... anything with a link or image or file in it has to be approved manually, and I just haven't been here as often as I should... Hope things are going well for you, and thanks for sharing!  Love it!

If you're living vicariously through a TV character .... which is something I may have done myself before Cersei died in a freak bricklaying incident ... then get yourself a perspex screen and go hard! Like a footy fan 😉

I got out for 30 minutes last night, and just returned from 20 minutes. I hope to get out again after work.

I hear you. It's so hard to get started again when I miss - because that nasty little voice in my head keeps reminding me how nothing is good enough.  It seems like so much of the time, the effort it takes for me to overcome that little voice makes whatever I manage to do a 'net neutral', instead of the positive it should be.

Thanks for posting that entry. It gives me some incentive to start recording my walking (or lack thereof). I'm having one helluva time starting in again.
