  1. I think doctors and other people in general just want to help. So they offer the most common advice on the subject first. It's not that they are trying to be obtuse. And it's probably safe to say that not everyone has the same knowledge on everything. And people are just human. We all get cranky at times. But I do know what you are saying. Insomnia for instance: people will always ask if you've tried melatonin and then ask if you have a tv in the bedroom. Well, yes I have tried melatonin and no, I do not have a TV in my bedroom............

  4. Hugs to you!! I think both of your friends are right: you might have depression and you need to see your doctor. But it also might just be anxiety or something else. I know that I personally was crying an awful lot before I was diagnosed and I have both anxiety and depression. It was pretty bad. So I know all about the crying and also about not wanting to get out of bed in the morning. You are here on the DF website and telling your story. It takes a lot of courage to seek out help. There are many intelligent and caring people on here to lend a listening ear. I'd say that seeing your doctor is the most important thing.
  5. I totally get you on this one. It's as if people at my work(as I perceive it anyway)think that major depression, anxiety, insomnia, and my other health issues shouldn't affect my work at all...............attendance, quality, stress............etc. I can have all of these ailments as long as I can still get everything done with no alterations. Great post!!
  6. Hello, It sounds like you have had a really rough time the last few years. I have depression, anxiety, and insomnia, in addition to some other health problems that I am hoping to resolve. I have not been through the change yet. I'm not sure how to help you but I just want to encourage you to hang in there. It takes awhile for a new med to kick in. Also, please see your therapist as soon as possible. Have you talked with your OB/GYN doctor about your mood? Hugs to you!
  7. The whole thing about the contingencies I totally get. I mean, how many times can you argue with yourself if you should go to the store or just order pizza...............exhausting for sure. Good luck with the new job. Whatever is helping you hold on, keep holding on to it and don't let go.
  8. It's February. My son undecorated the Christmas tree and we got all the stuff up to the attic. This tree has been up since Christmas 2 years ago............such is life. I'm finally starting to feel a little better?
  9. I took my grandma to the store(put gas in car while out and about) and threw a load of laundry in the washing machine. Will do a little more here soon. What is it about taking a shower that the whole day sort of hinges on that? Take a shower and get stuff done. Don't take a shower and don't get stuff done. But I often can't force myself to take a shower. Definitely couldn't force myself to go into Walmart with my grandma. Might go back out and pick up a few groceries from a smaller store later or first thing in the morning.
  10. If you go over to the "Anhedonia" forum, there are techniques that some use such as meditation and things like that. Those things I don't feel would have helped me but some people get a lot of benefit out of them.
  11. Light string cheese and baby carrots. Might get another string cheese and an apple next!! (Working on eating healthy!)
  12. Hello and welcome to the forums. I think what you are describing is called "Anhedonia". It means that you just really don't get pleasure out of anything and it's definitely a symptom of depression for many people if not most. Are you on a treatment plan for your depression?
  13. I have had a small bit of the sinusitis type stuff while on escitalopram but nothing too major.
  14. I can relate. I keep internalizing everything and not dealing with my emotions. Yours seem to be in the back seat.(cool analogy) THIS is one of the reasons I need therapy?
  15. I am definitely on a journey to discover who I am. You know, I didn't realize how anxious of a person I was until I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. Then I really started to pay attention to things. I am a highly anxious person as it turns out!! I think it's important to know yourself! Great post!!
  16. I think the only one that can really help you with this is a psychiatrist or some other MD. That may be the reason why no one has answered. Please keep us posted on how it's going!!
  17. I started cleaning the kitchen. It's not done but there is noticeable improvement! I am also trying to tire myself out so I will sleep tonight. ha ha And I think I decided that I am going to look for a therapist. I have never done therapy before but I think I have a LOT of issues that need a helping hand.

  19. Yes, I believe in miracles. But I don't believe in "name it and claim it". If you are at all religious, then you may know what I mean by that.
  20. Hang in there, Lauryn. You'll get through it. Some things can be such a chore though. I think it's pretty cool that you are in a writer's group!! Here's hoping you either have fun or learn something new!?
