  1. Best of luck to you two. I am almost at 3 weeks since making the jump to 20mg. Today is a one of those down days I spoke of. But it's soooo much more manageable than the down days off lexapro and the down days during the start up of 10mg. I agree that it was scary to make the jump since all I read everywhere is how terrible lexapro is and what not. So I'm glad starting this topic helped. Hopefully you two have no issues!
  2. Update for those considering making the jump to 20mg. My experience/suggestion is to absolutely do it if your doc gives you the okay and do not worry about the side effects. So far I'm almost two weeks in and the difference between 10mg and 20mg is night and day. I can't imagine it getting better than this but again I'm only 2 weeks in so maybe it will which is very exciting. The first week I experienced the normal start up effects such as increased anxiety and depression but not as bad as the original startup. 2 weeks in they seem to be gone. I still have up and down days but completely worth it.
  3. I know, me too I'm glad lexapro seemed to work so far. Question for those who made the jump from 10mg to 20mg. It took me 9 weeks to notice a positive result on the 10 mg. The 8 weeks leading up to that were hell. My question is did upping your dosage to 20mg take as long to see positive results as the original start up?
  4. Thanks Tracy and good luck to you too! I guess I'm sensitive to medicine because I'm experiencing pretty high anxiety the last few days. This is day 4 on 20mg and I definitely notice the side effects but they are not nearly as bad as the original start up, which is good. But my anxiety is bad, depression is creeping back a bit but other than that I seem to be ok. Hopefully the anxiety dies down soon because its paralyzing.
  5. Hey ASJ. I wrote back to you on a post you posted in another discussion but I want to make sure you see it so I'm literally copying and pasting it here. "Let me start off by saying I'm the most impatient person in the world so for me to say stick with it says ALOT. I had the worst startup ever. I've experienced things I've never experienced before. ITS NORMAL so don't worry. The second I would wake up I'd be in a panic. This would last all day. I felt that I was in this deep dark hole and would never get out of it. I experienced a helpless/hopeless feeling I've never felt before. I was never suicidal but often had thought of not wanting to go on. It's scary. 1 week, 2 week....5 weeks went by and nothing. Felt like I was never going to get better and as you are probably experiencing this only makes you panic more. 8 full weeks went by and nothing. I'm not trying to scare you but I'm also not trying to sugarcoat it. IT SUCKS. And then all of a sudden like someone turned on a light switch I started to feel better. The 9th week is when it really kicked in for me. I felt great. Significantly less anxiety/panic. Depression 100% gone. I still wake up panicked but by early afternoon it lifts. I still have bad days but much more manageable and much more good days in between. For these reason I'm jumping to 20mg to try and limit the morning panic and bad days, but if I had to I can easily survive on the 10mg. Long story short stick with it. Everyone is different. Took me 9 weeks but it may only take you 4 weeks. Don't give up and keep coming to this board. It helps a ton. "

  7. Thanks all for the encouragement. I will be starting the 20mg tomorrow. I will post and update my side effects for future people in my position to let them know how it goes. Drummer_Lady best of luck if you decide to make the jump! Keep us updated.
  8. Hazzy your response is exactly what I needed to hear! I also am prescribed Xanax as needed, so I'm hoping that helps with any side effects. I don't mind having some side effects in fact I expect it, but I can't have it be as bad as the startup for 10mg. I don't think I can go through that again. Best of luck with your transition as well.
  9. Hi all. So I have been on lexapro 10mg for about 9 weeks. I feel about 60% better from day 1 but feel I may have peeked. I still have the occasional bad days but mornings always suck. I still wake up panicked and my anxiety is pretty high in the AM. This goes away by early afternoon which is significantly better than how I was before, when it would last 24-7. Any way my doc added Wellbutrin which I took for about a week and asked to stop taking. It made me incredibly angry and irritable among other things. I'm sure those are normal side effects but I don't see the need of going through another 8 week startup when lexapro seemed to work for me. My doc agreed and upped my dosage from 10mg to 20mg. Basically my question is; is the jump from 10mg to 20mg as bad as the original startup? When I first started the 10mg I experienced every negative side effect imaginable and it was not until week 8 I noticed improvement. Anyone make this jump and if so how was it?
  10. I was on 10mg for about 5 weeks and finally saw some improvement to the point I felt like going out and celebrating since I hadn't been out a single day during those 5 weeks. Have a bunch of buddies that live in NYC and went in with the intention of having two or three drinks. Next thing I know it's 4am and I'm significantly over the two to three drinks. The next two days were hell. I was having the same side effects I experienced the first two weeks talking the medicine, if not worse. Major depression and major anxiety. Needless to say I haven't drank again since. My advice is not to drink while on it until you are about 8-10 in. And even then drink very little. I did get back to "normal" after 2 days but like I said those two days after were dreadful.
  11. Glad to hear you are feeling better. What week are you on? I'm about to finish my 7th full week tomorrow and like you feel much better but not 100%.
  12. I won't raise my dosage without my doctor giving the ok but I'd prefer to raise the dosage to 20mg instead of taking Wellbutrin. That's what I was implying. I definitely won't do anything without my doc telling me so. He's all about low dosage everything. I'm on the lowest dosage of Xanax, lowest dosage Wellbutrin and lowest lexapro. I'm just not thrilled with taking 3 different medicines. But I'm going to hold out doing anything until I get to 8 weeks.
  13. Thanks bhorout you've been a big help. I think you're right as far as waiting 8 weeks. Before the not so great news I was feeling significantly better than I was 6 weeks ago. I guess I'm just disappointed to be so down today after 6 weeks. Like I said I'm experiencing lots of up and downs. The ups are great and much better than I was before taking the medicine but the downs seem as bad if not worse than before I started the medicine. (If that makes sense) I met with my doc recently and he prescribed me Wellbutrin to add to the mix which I'll start tomorrow. He didn't seem to like the idea of upping my dosage despite me reading all the success stories about how going from 10-20mg was night and day and asking to go that route. So we will see. I just want to get to the point where I can handle bad news and not lose sleep and not eat for days because of it.
  14. So today is 6 full weeks and my depression is at an all time high. I did get some rather disappointing news yesterday which may be why. I'm job searching in NYC which is absolutely brutal for someone with major anxiety and depression like myself. Each and every day I don't hear back from the thousands of applications I send out I drive myself crazy. Yesterday I found out positions I were interviewing for were filled which sent me on a downward spiral. I seem to be having more down than up days lately. I know this isn't a magical pill and isn't going to solve my issue 100% but I hoped it would take the edge off a little. Maybe it is. I have no idea how I would have taken the news yesterday 6 weeks ago when I wasn't on lexapro. My question is - is 6 weeks enough to give up or should I go two more weeks. I don't know if I can do this much longer. I'm absolutely miserable.
  15. Thanks for the advice everyone. Sorry for the delay response I've been a bit busy. I don't think 5 weeks is enough to know either but it's completely discouraging to continue to see ups and downs like I do this far into the process. Like today for example I woke up in complete panic after being fine for the entire weekend. I can't stand it. I think I'll wait a week and try the Wellbutrin with the lexapro. My Xanax prescription is .5 twice a day so it's relatively low and I don't feel it's as effective as it used to be but I refuse to go higher because I fear I'll become dependent on it.
