Bravo to those of you who have left the King of Drama web site. Social media sites like FB generate many problems. I have been on several sites including FB, MySpace, etc. Seemed like there was often a war going on between people. I did get a kick out of sharing poetry and writes, but tired of ugly behaviors . It was not that people were being ugly to me all the time (that did happen on occasion) but it was more of an overall negative energy. One can draw good from these sites, how not to behave as a caring and compassionate human.

My family and a few close friends know my story. It has never been shared with a therapist. I have went through seasons of terrible depression during extremely difficult times. I tend to quit eating when facing overwhelming battles, but those are rare, only three so far in my lifetime, thank goodness. Normally, when little bumps happen, talking with a friend helps. Music and other arts, reading, games, vintage/antique items, refinishing/re-purposing, decorating and writing, relationships, being informed through research, and cooking (especially for others) helps me cope. What helps you to make it through those rough times?

Hello Aaron and welcome to the Forums,

Just read your post and want to tell you how sorry I am that you are going through all this.  Depression is such a brutal illness.  I'm 60 years old and have battled many "terrible" illnesses, but I consider depression to be the worst.  I have been on both citalopram and sertraline.  I was helped by both although I know that they don't work for everyone.  I wish I had some kind of great advice to give,, but sadly I am battling depression one day at a time and those who have not been stricken with it are somewhat clueless about how awful and debilitating it is.

That you have battled depression for five years is heroic in my eyes.  I was not helped much by face to face therapy but some of the books I was given to read did help me a lot, especially those written by cognitive behavioral therapists.  Although I can't claim to know you in any sense, I am sure you have done millions of strong, brave, wise and good things in your life and still do although depression may make it impossible to notice those things.  I wish I knew what to say to ease your pain.  My heart goes out to you!

    Sincerely,  Epictetus

Hi Aaron! One thing is for sure, you communicate well!  You are human, we experience all kinds of emotions, it is normal. If something can be resolved. why worry? If it cannot be resolved, why worry? If something can be resolved, then what is the action necessary? If it cannot be resolved then why waste time to place negative energy into it? Many tings can help you sleep better, perhaps this web site can help. http://sleepfoundation.org/sleep-disorders-problems

Evidently you have the people skills to make a marriage work for 7 years, that is longer than most marriages make it. You maintain employment, another positive aspect of your personality, being responsible. No one likes interviews Aaron, we don't like a dentist drilling either, haha.

Often we  judge ourselves harshly by comparing ourselves to other people whom we think have a normal life. Now tell me, what is normal? Is being rich normal? Is life without sorrow normal? Is being famous normal? Life is about being an individual in a family and community. I am not saying you do not have problems, we all have those. Many compare themselves to others or standards that are unreasonable. Define happy. What makes you happy? What gives you a sense of fulfillment? Many people fight their whole lives to obtain fame and fortune only to find it was not what they really wanted or needed.

Being paranoid is another thing. The American Psychology Association has studies and articles that may prove to be useful to you. Here are two links, http://www.apa.org/topics/personality/disorders-help.aspx   http://psychcentral.com/disorders/paranoid-personality-disorder-symptoms/

The second link says people are paranoid because of a basic mistrust of others, that is understandable, we all have had issues of being betrayed in life. Hope these links provide answers for you. I wish you well Aaron.

Thank you for your kind words.  It helps me a lot to know I'm not alone.  It also saddens me to know that so many people are struggling with depression and other mood & personality disorders.  Due to my Bible based beliefs, I do know that soon depression will permanently be a thing of the past.  And while knowing I'm currently not alone in my struggles is helpful, it is even more helpful to rely on my loving Creator and study his Word, the Bible. I have been having some self-care issues.  I have avoided showers. I don't brush my teeth as regularly as I used too. You probably wouldn't know that from looking at me. After a few days, I wash my hair under the faucet in the tub and I take "baby wipe" baths. I use perfumed lotions and body sprays and get told I smell good. If they only knew! I know lack of self-care is a sign of depression.  I was proud of myself today. I took a shower and washed and conditioned my hair. I brushed my teeth and went school shopping with my daughter.  I do regularly shop, but I haven't gone as much as I needed too lately.  I feel very fatigued which I blame a little on my BP med.  I'm very overweight and sedentary which doesn't help with energy.  I think I've seen this forum before.  Early this morning I Googled something like 'I don't want to do anything' and I came across responses on this forum from 2012 that I could really identify with and it confirmed what I already know, that I'm suffering from depression.  I have a long history with depression.  I've been taking Cymbalta for probably 8 years.  I feel like it's not doing its job anymore.  My mom said she's noticed me going downhill for about a year.  I have an appointment soon to see a psychiatrist.  I haven't seen one in over 3 years.  I think a med change is in order.  But after reading posts on here, I felt so much better knowing I'm not alone. I hope this forum helps you all! (((( Hugs ))))

While watching an episode of Criminal Minds a question was presented: What causes a person to stutter? My own reasoning told me the impediment was caused inferiority issues, I was wrong. The Stuttering Foundation says genetics is the main reason for stuttering. Now that makes sense, a child learns from his/ her caregivers, they learn from hearing/seeing. We copy our childhood environments even if it is incorrect.

Hi and welcome from another newbie! I kind of lapse in and out of mild depression with an occasional major bout, I am the champion in defeating oppressive circumstances. Domino is correct; a positive change in lifestyle (eating habits, exercise, etc.) mindsets and speech will usually improve our situations over time.
