  1. Do you write code in other languages? If so, c++ is not hard to pick up. Are you writing code for Windows, Linux, or what platform?

Jane, Sorry you are going through this . there are many reasons why people don't talk about their mental issues . reasons range from shame , deep mental pain, and terrible experiences trying to talk about it in the past, are just a few examples . Such issues with communication end up wrecking a lot of relationships - just one of many negative results of mental issues . I am not in your shoes , however I applaud you for looking here for answers and insight into the struggles of the afflicted , as well as those family and friends that have to deal with us who are not well.

  9. Birdiexris, Just one more thought... Sometimes the first therapist/professional you find may not be a good match for you. It is common to try several therapists to find the one that works best for you. Also, if meds are recommended, the same situation - it may take several attempts to find the right combination of meds that work for you. And sometimes meds are not the answer... there are a lot of things that end up helping you the most. For example, hitting golf balls helped you in the past. Maybe there is something else that will help you now. Since we are all different, no simple solution works for everyone. You just got to keep trying. -jmg
  10. Kodiak, So sorry you are suffering! This is a good place to meet others who share your pain. You asked how people knew when their depression hit: As for me, it has been a gradual thing happening over the years, getting worse over time. I did know what was happening to me, but it got to the point that I needed help or else. I got help, and diagnosed. It has been a long journey. The answers to your question will probably be vary from person to person - everyone is different. I hope for peace in your life, jmg
  11. Chris, Sorry you are suffering. This is a good place where others suffer in a similar way.... we help each other out the best we can. I would recommend that you see a therapist or someone who can help. The sooner you can get help, you can start on a better path. It it not a good thing to let this stuff get worse. It is good that you came here. At least for me, I have learned a lot about my illness, and how I can help myself. Maybe some ideas here can help you. Welcome to DF! -jmg

  13. We had a similar issue with a cat. A veterinarian informed us when we went to get it fixed. We were suprised, and had to get used to the idea. The cat is happy and healthy today. And we have adjusted as well. I hope you find peace in your life, jmg

  15. Brad, There are other therapies - essential oils come to mind. Also certain vitamines, and suppliments. Herbal medicines are used by some. As always, consult your doctor on anything. -jmg

  17. More and more, I just don't know what to say.
  18. A lot of the old gospel songs. I am not good at remembering the words, but the melodies bring me a sense of peace. Amazing Grace is one that comes to mind. I love the melody and words. Down to the river to pray is a good one. -jmg
