Rules and Disclaimer

We know that laying down rules can seem rather abrasive, please understand that these rules are meant to keep things on track towards a constructive end.18 June 02Pruning rules for this room. If a thread has not received a new post in 21 days that thread will be eliminated. Please, before starting a new topic see if that topic has already been started, if it has use that thread. Also if you have a number of threads already started try to use your existing thread first. Too many threads lead to confusion. Relationship problems deserve lots of attention, so I dont want anyone to get lost in the crowd. Some Rules for posting. Please read the forum rules. We will state also that we will not ask permission to edit your posts. If we see offensive language (defined by FA) it will be edited. If we see an offensive post it will be deleted. If we see posts that are meant to provoke a fight it will be deleted. The rest is written in the rules of the forum.Just remember that we all fight depression. Also remember that we have members of all ages here, so tread softly. Tread softly also because matters of the heart can light a fire faster than nearly any other subject.23 June 02Just a reminder that most times when someone posts a topic here they are looking for support. The debate as to the strengths and weaknesses of the human species in regards to gender or sex will only distract and detract from that support. We have noticed that some threads are started by a member (usually a newcomer), other members post sympathy, empathy, and concern, then the member who started that thread never responds. After a while this causes concern on the part of other members. If you start a thread, please respond to those who post in your thread. If we find no responses by the member who starts a thread asking for help, I will delete that thread after 2 weeks. We do not like seeing the stress it causes other members. Additional rules will be posted here if need be. Thanks for reading. ****This message is NOT directed specifically to you, our valued members, or to any one in particular reading this GLOBAL PM! Two subjects regarding violations of our TOS..Disrespecting or 'attacking' other member's in posts and inappropriate, objectionable language and/or offensive content in posts. We now feel that we sorely need to re-establish and remind members of some ground rules for our Forums, that we can all understand. All of us have to exercise good judgment in what we write about - and show. DC especially is open to guests and the purpose of DC and the other Forum areas such as the medications forums are for encouragement and support for people dealing with depression and anxiety issues, but mainly for much needed information. Period. We have to keep to that purpose, not straying from the original intent of these Forums in order to be successful and continue to offer the help and support so desperately needed. All Members agreed when they signed on to DF that through their use of this service, they would not use this Forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, offensive, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. Some members might wonder as to why they may find that one or more of their threads have been deleted. 99% of the time it is due to the systems pruning of the forums of old topics/posts. Unfortunately, 1% of the time, it's because they have to be, due to violation of the Terms of Service. Those members who bend the rules get a warning, no more than two. Some types of threads are borderline objectionable, so it is up to the Administration as well as our moderators as to whether further action will be taken. We have a very wide variety of members here - from young to old, and our purpose is to keep this place safe, and inviting for the majority. Offensive, colored, or rude posts have no place here. There are many other places on line that members can go to find that and express themselves in that way - but DF isn't one of them. The issue of 'fairness' or 'censorship' is a non-issue - the fact is, that this is a privately owned forum, open to the public solely for the purpose of helping others who struggle with depression/anxiety related disorders.Depression Central - Issues not related to a particular medication is specifically for depression related topics that are GENERIC in nature and do not fall neatly into one of the disorders or medication areas. Some examples: Possible causes of depression, finding a great self help book or website, effects on depression and work issues, day to day life in general."CURSING", "FLAMING", "BAITING" and "DEBATING" does not fall into the above categories for DC nor for any other Forum on DF. Quote:"Flaming" and "baiting" are considered posts which have the intention of drawing other posters into a thread with the purpose of degrading, demeaning and personally attacking other members or the Administration. This Forum is not run by a full time paid staff, it is run by a team of volunteers who come and go as their schedule permits. One over the top post, (or even a few), does not give permission to establish a new low in good taste. Being a member of this forum is a privilege, not a right. You, our members are greately valued, but when that privilege is violated in such an abusive way, we have no other choice. We must favor the rights of the other members to post in a safe environment. We are not thought police....just trying to keep our place clean enough for our members and especially our under age members. Not to say that they are oblivious to any of this, but it is certainly our obligation as role models. We were recently referred to on another site as being the "safest place" on the web and we intend to maintain that status and are quite proud of that stamp of approval. Our TOS is pretty self explanatory. So in conclusion, as a valued DF member/poster or an 'Author ' of a journal, you are responsible to please keep it clean, respectful and on topic.Depression Forums does not endorse, approve, recommend, or certify any information, specific treatment, medication, service, or professional presented or mentioned on this website.Last Updated: Oct. 13 2004,02:04 * DF does NOT vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any posting or the qualifications of any person responding. nformation supplied on Depression Forums should not be relied upon and is not a substitute for medical advice from a health professional or doctor.
