It's gonna be a long climb...



OK, I decided to once again try to start eating healthy and losing weight. The trick is to cut out carbs, especially donuts/cookies/pastries etc. A person can eat nuts, berries, meat and hard cheese though. But I'm a carb addict.

I'm in such horrible condition right now. I went on a several year bender and I think my heart muscle is shot. I also put on 30 lbs. That weight has to come off, and I need to take a load off of my poorly functioning heart.

I've hijacked this blog to become a record of my success (or failure).

I think I can help a little.

Slice bananas into little rounds. Place a bit of natural (no added anything) in between two of them like a sandwich. Melt some semisweet chocolate chips and drizzle over them. Freeze on wax paper and store in the freezer between layers of wax paper or parchment paper. Pop a few out in the afternoon for a sweet treat that's healthier.

Also, cut up an apple into bite-sized pieces. Put into a bowl with about 1/4 to 1/3 cup light coconut milk. Microwave for about a minute. Sprinkle cinnamon and salt to taste. You can also add a few nuts to it. I bet pistachios would be good. 

Both are sweet but actually have nutritional value.

My weight loss diet is, I only eat when I’m hungry and stop when I’m full. When I get to the point of being starving I allow myself to eat whatever I fancy (I try and choose healthy). When I eat I eat slowly so that I know when I’m full and should stop eating. I also drink a lot of water throughout the day. And as a treat, once a week (normally on saturday) I allow myself to have 200kcal of whatever sweet treat I want - dark chocolate is good for curbing cravings, without actually needing to eat a lot of it. But the point is to limit bad foods rather than cutting them out completely, it’s quite a nice diet to follow. I’ve lost 1/2 a stone in one month 🙂

My favourite healthy meal is stir fry, because you can pack a lot of veg in there, and also a lot of flavour. V filling !!

I'm a sugarholic too.  What helped was, I started to ween myself off of baked sweets by eating only vegan desserts, luna bars,

and frozen yogurt, etc.  cos I couldn't do cold turkey.  Most markets have some good selections,  but a natural food store is the best.  The Alternative Baking Company makes amazing cookies. 

And a hot air popcorn popper!  Put your own flavoring on it.
