Does it matter?

What we do matters.

They are real souls, the 10 people who are watching DF, who are so scared of the stigma, imprisoned at 'home' to such a degree, or hurting so deeply.....

10 are watching at any given moment for every 1 who dared to even sign up anonymously.

If you read this, you probably have encouraged at least one person anonymously, with nothing to gain, just out of love.

And for every 1, there were really 10, check out 'Activity/All Users' to see for yourself.

How terrible is a disease that 10 are afraid to admit it for every 1 who does.....

How valuable is even one note of encouragement, 1 genuine hug.  Multiply your hugs by 10........You're changing outcomes of life, you really are

Before I leave, I decided to make a quick stop to the blogs since there weren't many posts in the depression central. Usually, what I do in times like these is take a few days off and come back. It gets lonely, sure. But it helps realize what I want to be as a human being. You are correct that what we do matters. Actions speak louder than words.

You sound like a really lovely person- you've certainly helped me an extraordinary amount!

Thank you for being you and even whilst you are down you are caring more about other people than yourself how wonderful you are xxxxx

Thank you. For spreading good things. Like love to people who are a little bit lost. It's good to know there are people like you in the world. Who do great things because they can. That make humanity better.

It took me a while to understand that short post but once I got it, it spoke with such power of the immense strength and courage it has taken for that one person to acknowledge the 'pain' experienced and yet found the capacity to still support someone out there who is hurting just as much in their own way. Wow! :icon12:

Discovering online help was amazing to me. reaching out in person, getting out is not an option.. as many pointed out, people who dont' experience depression simply don't get it, even with all the love and try in the world. this place made me feel less alone, and I would love to be able to repay the favor, and help anybody feel less alone with their thoughts. it does matter

Yes it DOES matter! I myself watched these forums for a while before working up the courage to join. We have all been so conditioned by all the stigma that surrounds our disease, that we often keep quiet and suffer in silence. It has been a tremendous help to correspond with others who have the same problems... It makes me feel less alone. Thank you everyone for being here for one another... It's no small thing and it does indeed matter.

Very thought provoking and well said.  Thank you!

I come to this site from time to time and am always amazed at the support and understanding.  It helps me just to know that there are people who care about each other so openly.  Yes, it matters, and you really do matter.

We are all people who have been hurt in someway, we know what it's like to feel that kind of hurt, and I think it makes us more sensitive to other peoples feelings. If you are suffering and struggling to talk about it, just know that this is a safe place for you to talk, with understanding people, who are just like you.

I'm forever grateful for the support I had, and know the importance now of supporting others struggling like I did - the impact it has.

- You have all my support

I just found this, and had to say thank you. It's painful how true this is. I wish more people would understand. I'm trying to climb out of the pit where mental illness has driven me, and I'm terrified of reaching out because I'm afraid of people's reactions...I keep trying, then hiding, then trying again once I build up more courage...but bad reactions have driven me back into the pit for a long time before, and fear of that happening again makes me so cautious. I wish I could just jump out and sprint where I need to go. I wish other people didn't affect me so much.

I was one of the watchers 3 years ago. I joined but didn't post much. Then last month I came back because I was alone and this time I started participating and got wonderful support from other members going thru the same things as I was going thru. It made me feel like I am not alone. DF is a great place to find support and help.
