Just thought this would be interesting.  Don't forget to post your dosage too! joker.gif

You can tell which manufacturer you have for your generic by looking at the prescription bottle.

I was on 100mgx2 generic Eon, but was switched to 150mgx2 generic Teva.  I'm trying to get up the courage to ask the pharmacy for 150mg Eons because that is the generic I had been on the previous four weeks and I wasn't having any stomach upset with that.

400mg (200 x2 SR generic (Watson)).

the generic is entirely free on my insurance whereas the other would be $20...and I'm cheap so.

To be honest, I really don't think that the XL provides me with any additional therapeutic value. Like I said above the only difference is taking it once instead of twice a day. The drug company just wants you to pay a lot more for a simple convenience.

Well...my pharmacy just gave me the TEVA brand it's called Budeprion XL!

Boy, I hope there are no major differences--it's a bigger pill, thicker and in an oval shape (white).

Has anyone had experience with this version!!?? If it supresses my emotional eating I'll be thrilled!

Overall, I'm a bit worried about any changes in my meds!! stare.gif

I have been on Budeprion XL 300 mg from TEVA for about 2 weeks. I was on 150 mg wellbutrin XL prior to that. So far it's the best AD I have taken except for the "0" tolerance for stupid and rude people. I think it's the aggitation side effect. At least it has stopped the depression dead in it's tracks.

dtacmed--Thanks for sharing your experience with this brand of Wellbutrin. I had the jitters, when I first started the 300 mg of the brand name. (No rage though, I do take a Xanax at bedtime to help me sleep). I hope the Budeprion will affect me in positive ways and I'll have no bad side effects!

Myrtle--I'd call your doctor about the side effects you're having. I have read that other people have anxiety and irritablity on WB--finding the meds that work for you is so trial and error! It can be frustrating--but hang in there, there are so many choices, one of them is going to help you!

Hugs to you both--keep us posted!! hugs.gif

Just got my prescription, 100mg Bupropion, generic, manufactured by Geneva Pharma. I read people seem to range from 150 to 400mg a day, roughly. My question is did you all just start taking the full dose right away? My doctor said take three pills daily, seems like I might be in for a rougher time if I went to the full dose right away. Very concerned about side effects.

I see the "Stepy" started and 150 for seven days before going to 300. How did that go? What are others experience getting up to the dosages they are taking?

Thanks - Matt

I'm starting my Budeprion XL 300mg tomorrow -- have been on Eon Labs Bupropion for 4 weeks - was wondering if you are still on the Budeprion XL and if it works well for you, any side effects, etc? I haven't seen any long term posts for taking the Budeprion XL so either no one is taking it, or if they are haven't been any bad experiences??

Thanks! wink_kiss.gif

Hi Guys, just joined today. :)

I've battled depression and or anxiety for over a decade, with a few good periods in between.
The last few years I was on Effexor XR 75 mg. It has killed my libido, plus i just feel like we are kind of muddling thru. Today I saw my Dr and I asked if I could try a different medicine like Wellbutrin with fewer sexual side effects. He said okay and wrote out my script.

The pharmacy gave me generic Budeprion XL 300 mg. I had never heard of this, and now I am a little anxious about trying it. I am wondering if I should call my Dr tomorrow and have him call the brand name in for me, or just continue to take it.

Also, has anyone heard anything positive about stopping Effexor cold turkey? I have heard some horror stories. I've only taken the 1 dose of the XL. How will I know the difference between the new med, and/or a withdrawl from the other?

Not looking forward to the next few days.

I woke this morning expecting to feel bad. I don't feel that bad actually. But it's only been 48 hrs since my last effexor, and 24 hrs on my new med, budeprion. I am also battling a skin infection and on antibiotics.

My head feels fuzzy. My vision is sometimes a little cloudy. Don't know what's causing it. Could be a combo of all 3. :)

Same thing going on today. But not any stronger so that's good. :) Since it's now Thurs, and my last effexor dose was Monday, think my symptoms will get any worse?

Does anyone ever answer this board? Hellooooooo.

I'm also new to the forum and wrote a bit about my experience in another thread at http://www.depressionforums.org/forums/ind...mp;#entry225613. I, too, switched to Wellbutrin after 10 years on another antidepressant (Zoloft 200mg) because I decided to take the chance that there was a med that could alleviate the depression and allow me to have an enjoyable sex life. That was 2 years ago, and the difference was immediate. In fact, at first it may have actually elevated my drive. But why not? If finally felt good.

As far as switching from one med to another, I have always been instructed to decrease and increase gradually. Maybe it depends on which family of drug we're talking about, but I thought that it was a general rule not to suddenly stop any antidepressant unless one is experiencing a dangerous side effect. My transition from Zoloft to Wellbutrin was seamless. A little headache, fuzziness, or sleeplessness can always be expected for a week or two. After all, these chemicals are acting on the brain.

About generic vs. name brand, see my posts at the link above. I've taken Wellbutrin XL 300mg for over a year and a half with great success. The recent switch to the generic Teva was awful, and I didn't even see it coming. I felt more depressed for the last few weeks than I can recall since taking antidepressants. Just switched back to some leftover XL 150s yesterday and today and feel like myself again. It's dreadful to think that someone trying a drug that might have been the one to work may never realize it because of the insurance coverage.

I've done a bit of reviewing here, and it seems most of the problems with the generics point to the company TEVA. I only found 2 posts on Eon and they seemed to be preferred over Teva (myself included). Also I've noticed that the least amount of people are on Eon. Since I know it worked pretty well for 2 weeks out of the 5, I'm guessing it's dosing or just time. The Eon pills look just like the Wellbutrin brand name except they don't have "Wellbutrin" printed on them.

Hi there.. I've been reading your dosages.. well, what do you think about mine? After reading your dosages I think mine es excessive.

150 x 4 BUPROPON HCL SR + 50 SEROQUEL.. Right now I am only talking 300 since Januray and will increase slowly to 600

I am new to this AD . So far I feel numb, no motivation, memory problems (short & long), no concentration, etc., etc., when I increased to 300 this past Tuesday I started to feel sudden muscle spasms, changes in vision. I have told my pdoc and she did not worry.. should I be worried?

Hi, I'm new here. After reading here about experiences I asked for Wellbutrin IR. I received the generic Teva. I'm taking 100mg 3x/day. Main issue--it's even more difficult to fall alseep. When I wake up in the middle of the night, it takes awhile for me to fall asleep again.

I'm going to try the WAellbutrin XL. My p-doc said that none of her patients have had negative experiences with it. I'll let you know how it goes for me.

If your pdoc thinks this is a normal reaction to changing doses, then it's probably ok. Did your doc explain why she wants to raise you to 600?

Hi all, new here.
I've been on 150 XL for about 5 weeks. I'm going to go one more month and probably up the dose. I'm starting to have irritablility and inner impatience and rage. I just saw my dr. yesterday and told him of my "bad" day, but we are going to hang at this dose a while longer... It's a new refill, so I'd hate to waste them, but what if I do need to go to 300 before the month is out? Can I take 2 xl 150s to finish this bottle or do I have to get rid of them and get a new script? Shoot I never ask everything I need to while I'm at the drs!!

I'd probaly just call your doctor and ask just to make sure. I'm sure there's some number or way of reaching your doctor for a short question like that?? I know I have Kaiser and we can communicate through email with our doctors but when I didnt there was someway I could reach my doc. Thats the safiest way to go then taking advice from people here, because each of us has different bodies and side effects and stories so your doctor knows best.

Sorry that wasn't much help but if you're wanting to up the dosage thats definitely a doctor question. Good luck! Keeping you in my thoughts.

I agree. I'll call him in a few weeks. The Dr. would be fine with my desire to up it. Matter of fact, he asked me if I was ready yesterday but I am leary in a way, so I said let's wait a bit longer. It's like I'm telling him what I need and he's accomodating me.

He started me on Cymbalta..that was I nightmare so I called him and I asked for WB so he called it in to the pharmacy. The typical pattern for WB seems to be 150 for a week or two and then up to 300.

I'll use up these I suppose (one a day) then call him to start on 300 and make it easy for all..I should be fine. Heck, I've lived depressed alll my life, what's a few more bad days over the next 3 weeks huh?
Thanks for responding! smile.gif

I have been on Wellbutrin for about five weeks. I am taking the Eon buproprion, 100 mg SR twice a day. I did go up to 150 mg twice a day, but it made me feel horrible so I just asked my doc if I could go back down. I am not sure if it was the increased dosage or the fact that the 150s were the Teva brand, but regardless they did not sit well with me. The Eon generics seem to work well for me, and I'm a small person so I am not sure I even need 300 mg. I read somewhere that standard dosages are based on a 165 lb man.

I am on SR and take 150 3x a day - I have been going through a major swing recently and they upped the dose hoping to get a quicker response. I think eventually I will go down to 150 2x a day.

I just skimmed through this thread, and if I missed a post, I apologize.
I started the generic wellbutrin called buproprion at 150 mgs. I did that for a week, and then I noticed that the 300mg dose was another generic called budeprion I looked around on the internet, and although there isn't any official site talking about side-effects, there was a whole bunch of anecdotal stuff about some peoples horror stories on this med.
Any comments/suggestions?
The stuff I read so far, frightens me.

i started taking welbutrin two weeks ago and am on the XL 300. i've had very few side effects. though one that's alarming is i feel like i can't breathe every once in awhile, even when i'm just sitting. talked to the doc yesterday, she said it was what she calls "the extended exhale" i'm not quite sure i agree with her but possibly. i dont know, we'll see if it continues i guess.

I was started on 150mg/day of Wellbutrin XL about a week ago, and going to be increased to 300mg/day in a couple more weeks. With all this bad news on the TEVA XL, I think I'll stick with the brand name... only a difference of $20 for me... doesn't seem worth the chance.

Hi Inqy --

Do you know what brand the 150mg Buproprion was? I've read most the posts on generics on this forum and other forums on the web, and I've heard nothing negative about the Wellbutrin (buproprion) Generics EXCEPT for the TEVA brand -- BUDEPRION.

If your insurance won't pay for the name brand Wellbutrin XL -- maybe check to see if you can take the twice a day dosing of the 150mg. I took Eon / Sandoz generic Bupropion with no problems. I switch to name brand for a month to see if there was any difference and I noticed no difference.

However, I, as well as many others, had a bad experience with TEVA XL -- mainly that it feels like it doesn't work on the depression or anxiety -- and that it causes nausea and headaches for many people (myself included).

Hope you can get name brand Wellbutrin or another generic.

J

Hi Haullie --

I almost wonder if you're experience a little panic or anxiety? Did your doctor check your blood pressure? Not sure but that is another possibility. My blood pressure went up on Wellbutrin so I had to start taking blood pressure medication along with it.

Whatever the side effect is -- if it is bothersome enough after 3 or 4 weeks, you may ask your doctor to try something else.

J

I just started taking Wellbutrin XL 150mg about a week ago. So far my husband says I look and seem "brighter". He told me yesterday my face was glowing. So far so good. No side effects like Zoloft and Lexapro. The only thing is right now I feel a little too "up", like I'm talking a little too much and stuff.

Dondi:

Goo to hear that WB seems to be working for you.

That "up" feeling you described is one of the meds nasty little side effects. It'll dissipate with time. However, like myself, you may need a Rx for Xanax or a sleep med, as WB can cause restlessness and sleepless nights.

Keep us posted.

I also take Geodon, which makes me drowsy enough to sleep. The hospital never gave me back the rest of my vistarils (curses! that's 20 bucks wasted..) Thanks, and I will let you know how it's going.

I do love this site.
