I'm looking at the poll and it seems to me that more people are on the actual WB pills then the generic brands.  What's so bad about the generics.  They are cheaper.  I am on WB SR but I dont think its the best.  It costs a lot more and it smells and makes me smell too!!   Which brand does not have a smell?

I have been on Wellbutrin SR for 8 years now. I have tried using the generic brand and felt horrible. I'm all about the brand. I've also tried the XL version but it made me a bit agro.

Hi all, I am new here, and posted in the New Members forum this morning.

I am on Wellbutrin XL 150mg/day, but will be changing to Wellbutrin 300mg/day starting tomorrow. I just experienced an extremely depressive crisis that I wrote about on my initial new member post and since I am bipolar II and extremely prone to major depressive symptoms, I need high doses of AD. I was doing pretty well on the 150mg, but I am anticipating the need for the higher dose because I am also prone to suicidal feelings.

I did notice that several of you are on multiple anti-depressants which seems curious to me. I had never heard of people being on more than one anti-depressant at one time. I am on three daily meds (an AD, a mood stabilizer, and an anti-psychotic - I'm also BPD), as well as a "rescue" med for anxiety attacks, prn.

On another subject, I notice that higher doses of Wellbutrin have a possible side effect of seizures ... since I am going to a higher dose, this is of concern to me, but my mood stabilizer (Topamax, prescribed off label for my bipolar) is actually an anti-seizure medication. I would hope that would stave that particular side effect off?

I posted a topic on this ... Difference between SR, XL and HCL, but have another question. You've mentioned generics. I'm on 150mg Wellbutrin 150mg now. I was on 100mg. On the 150's it says "WELLBUTRIN XL 150" and they're white. On my old ones, they were blue and say "E 410", the "E" is kinda slanted. Could the blue one have been generic? I'm totally for generic... I'm all about saving $$$ on this stuff.

There is at present no generic available for the Wellbutrin XL 150mg, you have the name brand. If you look furhter back in the Wellbutrin threads you will find my posts about the considerable differences in dissolution of name brand XL vs. generic, in the 300mg.

300 SR.

I was on this for 5 years, and it worked AWESOME. I stopped for whatever reason. I think it was cause my doc switched me to generic. Well, I've been back on brand name for a week, and I really really really hope that it works like it once does, it was amazing.

It works for me, so far. mellow.gif

wellbutrin sr 150mg 1x daily

today is the 8th dose

sometimes i feel a bit dizzy, or a minor headache.. along with things that you guys describe as brain zaps but in a few of my toes or fingers.. it's a lot better than i was before though as i constantly had muscle spasms all over my body and tingly-ness in my toes/hands.. i think it was the anxiety/depression mix

Generic Bupropion SR, 150mg twice a day--I don't know the mfr. I also take 15mg Remeron and 2mg clonazepam at night for sleep. I's been about a week since I increased to 2 tabs/day but I missed the 2nd dose at work yesterday. So far I feel I'm benefiting but I hope in 4-6 wks I will feel better than ever--is it too much to hope for?

I am taking the generic version of Wellbutrin XL made by Teva called Budeprion. The dose is 150mg's.
I started out on generic Wellbutrin SR 150 mg manufactured by Watson however the release of the medication was not smooth at all which caused the jitters.

So far day two of the generic XL has been pretty good overall. It still probably releases the medication just a little faster than I'd like but it's not very bad and think I'll adjust to it okay. This is my 6th week on WB and overall feel very good. Suffered from stomach issues with IBS for many years and this med is helping tremendously.....

You can tell which manufacturer you have for your generic by looking at the prescription bottle.

I was on 100mgx2 generic Eon, but was switched to 150mgx2 generic Teva.  I'm trying to get up the courage to ask the pharmacy for 150mg Eons because that is the generic I had been on the previous four weeks and I wasn't having any stomach upset with that.</font>

Interesting...today is my first day on the forums, but I haven't seen anyone mention the dosage that I am currently taking which is Brand name Wellbutrin 150 mg XL twice per day. My Dr came up with this dosage based upon my sensitivity level and my adverse reactions to how fast the generics seem to release in my system. This dosage seems to be working quite well to keep the jittery feeling at bay as well as not giving me many issues with my sleep. Every once in a while I can't get to sleep, but that was a problem pre-diagnosis too so my not just be based on the WB.

In answer to someone's post earlier about SR vs XL from what I've researched, the SR has a half-life of 6-8 hours and the XL is a half-life of 16-20 hours. Generics can release in your system with up to a 25% variance then the name brands based upon the FDA's approval criteria. I have taken Bupropion from Teva and from EON and found the WB name brand as being the most consistant.

I keep hearing that the name brand WB XL is the best... I wanted to try that first however the difference in price was substantial for a months supply compared to the generic. I'm going to give the generic a chance and see if I can get by okay on it until my insurance changes again in Jan.. It seems relatively smooth to me however I just started taking it yesterday and feel a bit loopy on it today. Hopefully this improves over the course of a week....

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it stays smooth. I got really lucky in that my insurance co didn't balk at having to pay for it. I don't know what I would have done financially if I had to cover more then the deductible of the brand name myself. Best of wishes to you.

I'm taking WB SR 150mg, but I only want to take it once a day in the morning. I've tried the XL but I can't sleep well with it.

Do you mean W XL 2 x 150 mg at once, or taking it in two divided doses? What time of day? I am interested in this, thinking of taking 150 mg XL in the morning, and then play around with another 150 mg XL. Anyone else experiences with XL in divided doses?

I take 600 mg total, divided into two 150 SRs in the morning and two at night. I haven't heard or read about twice-a-day dosing with the XL kind.

Yes, that's one of the generic versions, although Teva has named their version Budeprion, which they might think is clever, but I think it's confusing. The actual chemical name is bupropion, and the other generic companies will simply call it that.

GlaxoSmithKline makes the name brand Wellburtin.

I'm on 300 mg of Wellbutrin XL, which I take each morning when I get up, and 40 mg of Prozac, which I take each night before bed. I started the wellbutrin just a few weeks ago, and so far I've experienced the following side effects:

-Occasional headaches (pretty minor though)
-Occasional difficulty getting a "full" breath of air
-When I go running, at the beginning the inside of my chest feels "heavy" and hurts a little with each step I take, but that goes away as I continue running
-I sleep less soundly--waking up a number of times throughout the night (it's not real bad though, as I've always been a very heavy sleeper, so I can always get back to sleep when I wake up)

I think overall the postives outweigh those negatives. I'm definitely doing better on the depression front, and I'm less tired during the day than I was before.

The thing is though..even with both the prozac and the wellbutrin, I still feel at times like I will need to commit suicide in the not-too-distant future. It doesn't make sense to me since I'm doing quite a bit better, but I just feel like life won't be "good enough" because I'll be battling mental-health issues for decades to come still, and that seems so hard. (I'm only 25.) Could it be that one of the two medications I'm on is actually causing suicidal thoughts?

Oh I forgot to mention in my previous post that my hands are a little shaky these days. That's the one other side effect I've experienced. It's not super noticeable, but one example is when I'm drinking some water, I notice it when I hold my cup up--it just shakes a little bit ("trembles"?) sort of as if I am much older and I just can't keep my hands very still any more.

I have been on about every Wb there is I have been on 300mg for about 6yrs now doing good then the pharmacy decides to give me these generics not sure what brand I threw it away with what was left of the dang pills. these where long pills instead of round like Wb normally is. Well I started feeling like crap didnt give a crap about anything and so on. Very short fused after about three weeks My wife said what is going on I told her I dont really know its like the meds arent working anymore So she called the Dr and asked if I could please get regular wb xl so I finally got back on the real stuff I know there is a diffrence now!!!!! Now I am having panic I cant think clearly alot of the time and this doesnt seem to be going away its Like adhd Really bad I went to the Dr today and he said he was afraid to put me on any meds for adhd because I have been Sober for almost 5 years and he said they are very addictive which doesnt work well with me. and my Blood pressure they got down and stayign down after many failed attempts. he decided to give me more wellbutrin xl They are 150 three times a day so we will see if this helps but he also showed me where the generics are the same as the regular wb in 150 mg So I guess I am going to try the 150 they are the same size and look idenical so we will see. Thank you everyone for having this forum and sharing.

My bottle says "budeprion SR by Teva". Sounds a little different to me. It makes me feel speedy do I have cut it down to quarters. Does the speediness go away quickly? I've been on it for about a week.
