Just thought this would be interesting.  Don't forget to post your dosage too! joker.gif

You can tell which manufacturer you have for your generic by looking at the prescription bottle.

I was on 100mgx2 generic Eon, but was switched to 150mgx2 generic Teva.  I'm trying to get up the courage to ask the pharmacy for 150mg Eons because that is the generic I had been on the previous four weeks and I wasn't having any stomach upset with that.

I voted generic Teva, but I really wasn't sure which one to select, because I have been taking regular Wellbutrin SR, but the last time I filled my prescription I got the generic, and I also have a bunch of samples of the XL from my doctor - so I'm taking a little of this, a little of that....
Anyway, I'm at 300mg/day.

After reading that some folks actually feel better with a lower dose, I'm going to 150mg of the SR from Teva.  I actually see a pdoc for the first time in two weeks - having tried, paxil, effexor, lexapro, wellbutrin, and buspar, I'm guessing I know more than him - but I'll resign from the self prescribing business after that. :)

Glad you're doing well with the start-up, wenzel. Hope this finds everyone else well, too.

Good luck with your pdoc appointment, bonsoir - I think that's a very positive step.

Hi I have been on WB 100mg almost a month.  It has its ups and downs, and lack of sleep but I love it.  I am going to keep it low for another month.

I am now on 300 mgs SR and I will probably switch to the XL soon.  It seems like a simple switch, but I always worry whenever I change meds.

Question:  Why are you switching from Sr to Xl?  I don't understand...the whole XL thing (i would say imho but I really think it's a fact) is a marketing ploy plain and simple.   :ears: ??  Use em at this moment.  You see Buproprion (Wellbutrin) is actually not a very new drug.  They had some intital problems in the first clinical trials with the seziure thing (there is a really interesting few articles out there on the internet by the Dr who ran the original and subsequent trials on the drug that spells it all out).  Anyway, the decided to market it at a lower does then orginally planned because one study suggested that a small percentage of people were more likelt to have a seziure at the more effective theraputic dose of 400 mg so usually people hold off at 300 or 350 mg.  THen the orginal patent expired which means generics were made so they came out with the SR for with a new patent for that and could ride THAT cash cow for a while (the main benefit for the patient is taking fewer pills...I know I'd rather pay $10 a month rather then $40 05 $50 and simply take two pill a day.  Well guess what the SR patent rna out so THAT one is made generically and is now cheap...so those geniuses at the drug company thought HMMM how can we continue to suck as much of the life blood from the poor saps...."hey let's make a NEW version that lasts even LONGER and call it XL so the take one pill a day or one everyother day or whatever it is....man these greedy f-  barstewards burn me up..... ranting.gif.....how mcu money is enough>  How many  censored.gif times does a company need to take advantage of unwell people to make more and more money on essentially the exact same product that is not helping anyone any more then it was before and simply making them think they are geting some great cutting edge product when they are  getting the same damned thing? Don't fall for their scam.....so take four pills a day instead of one save money and get the same benefit....and go to a feel good movie with the money you save..... lookaround.gif  Just open up those eyes and ears and don't let those greedy scumbag mo-fo's take advatage  :rasp: anymore......

Tenor42, I totally agree with you.  Drug companies repackage meds so they can get a new patent and be protected from having generic versions for a while.

The issue with my medicine is kind of comlicated and I didn't explain that in my post.  I have been on Wellbutrin SR for over 3 years and for atleast 2 years I have been on 400.  I just decided with my doctor that it had pooped out on me and just contibuted to anxiety.  So I am going down slowly and using XLs which last longer.  I am phobic about med changes eventhough Wellbutrin is not hard to get off.  Thanks for your concern.  It was Wellbutrin, Zyban, Wellbutrin SR, and now XL.  I get XL samples from my doctor so I don't have to pay.  I barely blinked when the XL came out even though I had to keep seeing commercials about the convenience of a once a day formulation.  That is useless for me since I already take meds 4 times a day.

I'm looking at the poll and it seems to me that more people are on the actual WB pills then the generic brands.  What's so bad about the generics.  They are cheaper.  I am on WB SR but I dont think its the best.  It costs a lot more and it smells and makes me smell too!!   Which brand does not have a smell?

I will soon be going back on Wellbutrin... after my surgery next week.  I am opting for generic Wellbutrin IR (Bupropion) this time around as I was on WB SR for a year and a half a year and a half ago.   :;):

Best wishes to all you Wellbutrinites!

Howdy folks... Well....  I've been on wellbutrin for about 9 weeks now since I started back on it after a 2 month break. Prior to the break the 2 months I was on it I was on the brand Wellbutrin SR 150mg twice a day. I had all the beginning side of effects, insomnia, migraines and all... but it slowly dissapates. I still had problem sleeping....fast-forwarding to present... the last 9 wks I've been on the generic SR150mg twice a day by Teva. I've noticed that instead of giving me energy it makes me really TIRED and to the point I just want to lay down. when it starts to kick in...  has anyone else had weird side effects on the generic that you didn't have on the brand version?

Hello toots,   :)

Wellbutrin SR and Zyban are one and the same ...just different name and packaging, same manufacturer.
SR is 'slow release' and XL is 'extended release'  and IR is 'immediate release'.
They all are the antidepressant 'Bupropion'.

QUOTE
Bupropion is used to treat depression, attention deficit disorder, and smoking cessation.
Proper Use of This Medication:

This medication is not habit-forming, and does not cause a high feeling.
This medication may take 2-3 weeks to begin working and 6-8 weeks for full effects.
Take this medicine exactly as directed. Do not take more of it and do not take it more often than prescribed. Do not miss any doses.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses. Keep doses at least 6 hours apart for the non-sustained-release preparation.
Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication, as it may interfere with its effectiveness.
If there is a possibility you may become pregnant or breast-feed while on this medication, first consult with your psychiatrist.
Advise your physician if you have ever had a seizure before starting this medication.
This medication should not be discontinued without first consulting with your psychiatrist.
Store this medication in a cool, safe area away from the reach of children.
This medication is usually well-tolerated. However possible side effects include:

Dry mouth: This may go away with continued use. Chew sugarless gum, suck on sugarless candy, and drink plenty of unsweetened fluids.
Nausea and vomiting: This may cease with continued use. Taking with food may diminish the nausea.
Decreased appetite and weight loss: Contact your prescriber if these symptoms persist or are severe.
Constipation: Drink plenty of fluids. Eat raw vegetables and fruits daily. Increase fiber intake.
Headache: This side effect usually stops with continued use. The headache usually responds to over-the-counter analgesics, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, or acetaminophen.
Difficulty sleeping: Take as early in the day as possible.
Nervousness: This may occur when beginning to take this medication or increasing the dose. It usually stops with continued use.
Agitation, Anger/irritability: If this unusual side effect occurs, contact your prescriber.
Tremor: This is usually temporary, and goes away with continued use.
Increased Heart Rate: Bupropion does not appear to cause heart damage.
Menstrual changes: Occasionally changes may occur in the menstrual cycle during long-term use.
Excessive sweating: This is unusual, related to dose, and usually temporary.
Rash/itching: Contact your prescriber if this occurs. The rash often clears by reducing or discontinuing the medication.
The following medications should not be taken without first consulting with your psychiatrist:

Tricyclic Antidepressants and Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril).
Cimetidine/Tagamet, Phenobarbital, Carbamazepine/Tegretol, Warfarin/Coumadin, Phenytoin/Dilantin, Levodopa.
MAO inhibitors (special antidepressants).
Nicotine (may increase blood pressure)
Orphenadrine (Norflex), Cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan)
Flecainide (Tambocor), Encainide (Penetrex), Mexiletine (Mexitil), Propafenone (Rhythmol), Trazodone (Desryl), Fluoxetine (Prozac), Paroxetine (Paxil), Citalopram (Celexa), Opiate analgesics (e.g. codeine, Hydrocodone, morphine, etc), Mirtazepine (Remeron)
History of Seizures: If you have ever had a seizure or epilepsy, this may not be the best choice of medication for you. Discuss this with your prescriber before beginning bupropion.

Hello Lindsey... i"m doing fine on the generic. I still get kinda sleepy when it starts to kick in. I'm usually @ work in the morning when this happens so I deal. If I'm home I find I lay down (can't sleep) for about 30 mins and after that my energy is back. It's weird. I take my 2nd dosage of WB excatly after 6 hours and find this doesn't happen after the 2nd pill.  :)

I've noticed that instead of giving me energy it makes me really TIRED and to the point I just want to lay down. when it starts to kick in...  has anyone else had weird side effects on the generic that you didn't have on the brand version?

does anyone take pain medication with wb? i take lortab 10 mg. seems like the lortab make me a little crabby thanks[QUOTE]

I've taken Vicodin while on WB. I couldn't tell that it made me any crabbier - I ALWAYS felt that way :p

I started yesterday on Wellbutrin XL 150 mg once a day, so I've only had two doses so far. I can feel it though. I'm a little hyper and irritable right now. I'll post other se's if they occur.

<font color='#0000FF'>I am now on 300 mgs SR and I will probably switch to the XL soon.  It seems like a simple switch, but I always worry whenever I change meds.

Brand new to this. So sorry if I', doing this wrong.

I went off Paxil 20 mg when caused fatigue and extreme lack of energy, 20 lb weight gain in 2 years. . Put on Wellbutrin xl 300mg. Worked great, happy , energy, lost the 10 lbs gained w/ Paxil. * Depression gone, but Anxiety now, which did not have prior w/ Paxil.** Two days ago I took double my meds of Wellburtin 850mg. (forgot I'd taken it already). 4 hours later, I'm in a full blown panic/ anxiety attack. And, when taken to emergency room, drs dismissed the overdose saying could have not caused it.- that I need Anxiety theraphy.

My Dr. . took be off Wellbutrin (says for 1 week, may start back lower dose). Put me on Zolof. First day on Zolof today, and feel tired, and sleepy again like Paxil. Also took Xanax for insomnia /anxiety last night..

Never had such a horrific experience as the Anxiety Attack The absolute worst experience of my life.
During attack, I could not speak, hands drew up, could not focus , breath, ,,,,almost wrecked car trying to focus and keep car on road.

Could this "attacK" have been caused by the overdose of Wellburtin? Emergency Room Dr's so no way,and ignored my symptoms as "only anxiety attack".

is a combo of Wellbutrin and another med for anxiety an option??
thx/ greeneyes01
