I have given up. No matter how hard I try it never works, so why bother. Why should I keep trying so desperatly just to clamber up a tiny bit to be forced back down and left clinging on. I'm not clinging anymore. I can't. I can't feel anything but despair, and I don't know why or how to stop it anymore. Does this ever end? Will I ever be able to have a normal, happy life? Ever?

I remember this feeling, mine settled down and then came crashing back. I can't give advice to cope as this is fairly new to me & I have to learn how to get past depressive episodes. I still have faith that things *may* get better in the future. That's all the hope you have to hang on to.

What is causing your problem exactly?

Sounds like the voice of depression has taken over your life...you need to get yourself some help (and if you are getting help, you need to tell your professionals that it's not working!). If you aren't seeing a therapist or pdoc, make an appointment with your general practitioner. Make sure there aren't physical reasons causing your depression. After you've ruled that out, ask for a referral to a pdoc and/or a therapist, or start attending a support group if you can't afford a doctor. Don't give up, keep fighting. Things do get better, but it requires a lot of hard work and perseverence.

Normal? Maybe not. Moments of happiness? Definitely. Otherwise I'd have been gone long ago. I've been where you are, more than once. Get through the next 5 minutes, then the next 5 hours, then the next 5 days. Just get through it. Things can and do change, but you may have to do a few things differently to make that happen.

If you "don't believe in antidepressants" I strongly strongly urge you to reconsider. No amount of wishful thinking will make chemical imbalances suddenly correct themselves. Take advantage of medical advances, and find the best counselor you can as well.

If you think alcohol helps, think again. I used it to self medicate (because I did feel better, for about 5 minutes) and it took YEARS to connect the impact it had on my moods.

Please keep reaching out like you have done here. It saved my life and I'm glad to still be here, no matter how many times I've hit bottom.
