I haven't been on this site in ages. I still take 150mg Wellbutrin and 10mg Lexapro. Have been on this combo for over 2 years. I am one of the unlucky ones who will need meds for a lifetime, just ask my husband. I am tired of the expense, and I can get Prozac for free through the healthcare system here in Costa Rica. Since they don't have Lexapro among their meds. or Wellbutrin, I am paying out of pocket for them both. If I could get similar results from Prozac, why not go for the med I can get for free? I am not so sure the Lexapro does so much for me anymore. I do not want to deal with withdrawals so I want to continue some SSRI. I don't have a Dr. who speaks English and additionallyhe doesn't know much about depression, anxiety and medications, yet I did convince him to prescribe for me. Based on my history I shared with him. He still thinks I have so much to be happy about so why do I need medication? Jeez. Brain chemistry problems??? So, has anyone gone from Lexapro to Prozac? How do you suggest I do this? Since they are both SSRI's can I just stop one and start the other? Thanks for any help you can offer. I know it is best to talk to a Dr. but it is a difficult situation and language barrior. Besides, real life anecdotal stores are valid.

Hi,

It's a shame you do not have a doctor you
feel you can talk to who totally understands
depression and its symptons. I took lexapro
in the past and had horrible side effects from
it so I switched to paxil. My pdoc had me
taper off the lexapro little by little as I started
the paxil at a low dose. The changeover went
very smooth for me but it would be better if
you had a good doctor to help you through it.
I have been on Prozac twice (Im a lifer also) and
it worked great for me. I usually get 5
years out of a medicine before I have to switch
but prozac and zoloft had by far been the best
meds I have taken. I wish you well,

starr

Thanks Starr. I am on day 6 of tapering the Lexapro. I have felt fine until today. Dizzy, nauseaus, but not debilitating. I had been taking only 10mg so my tapering is to take 5mg. I am thinking to maybe take about 2-3 months of tapering the Lexapro and not starting up on the Prozac to see if maybe Wellbutrin alone will do the job. I don't want to have no libido the rest of my life. It is bad enough being 60 and post menopausal and those physical and hormonal changes that effect libido. Women need a little blue pill worse than men! I would like to hear from others about this tapering and the side effects from Lexapro. This forum is the best.
