I have recurrent depressions and because they are quite hard, and sometimes AD-s don't help, my pdoc says I may have bipolar disorder. I was wondering if anyone with bipolar depression has gotten relief from wellbutrin?

Wellbutrin had little effect on my depression even at the the max of 450mg. It just didn't work for me as an AD or stabilizer. There are othe people here with Bipolar who take it in conjunction with other med(s) to improve it's viability.

No experience yet here but just wanted to chime in since my daughter was just prescribed this. Her doctor made it sound like it had mood stabilizing qualities.

I've gotten good results from Wellbutrin. I take it in conjunction with Abilify and Depakote to treat my bipolar disorder.

Adding Wellbutrin XL 300mg to my meds had no effect on me. I'm also taking Abilify and Lexapro to treat bipolar disorder and anxiety.

I'm on:
1) lithium,
2) ramping up on Lamictal (50mg current),
3) 450mg Wellbutrin,
4) 2400mg N-acetylcysteine,
5) 10mg Ambien (for sleep),
6) Ativan (as needed)

I'm not sure the Wellbutrin is doing anything for my depression although I do think it's "amping" me up a little. If/when my depression lifts, the Wellbutrin along with the lithium will be the first to be weaned back.

Hi Rapunzel

18 days is still early days and you may be experiencing increased depression due to side effects. Hopefully after a few weeks you will feel better. The meds do take time. Bear in mind that I am not a professional.
