Hi all,

I am new to this site and very excited about talking to others :) Long story short, I have been dealing with depression for years. I recently moved to another city. Before that I have been on various mood stabilizers and other antidepressants in the past. When I moved to my new place I saw a doc and it's been a bad experience, as I am finding a new doc. First off I had to see the PA first which never made sense, but I spent 3 weeks being put on all sorts of mood stabilizers and antipsychotics. Mood stabilizers put about 20 pounds on me and make me feel worse. When I explained that she finally agreed to put me on Wellbutrin (still hadn't seen the doctor) and Phentermine for weight loss. I should have known to NEVER put those two together as not only do the side effects triple, but there is a major drug interaction between the two as they can cause seizures! She never even told me that. This past week I have been extremely depressed (I know you start out with Wellbutrin that can happen for weeks until drug takes full effect), but I was very angry on both those meds, I'm sure from the stimulant effect.

Anyway I feel better and am hoping the Wellbutrin is the answer for me. :) I look forward to talking to everyone!

Jenny

Hi Jenny.

I hope Wellbutrin is the answer for you, too. But there are lots of other meds if it doesn't work. Personally I take 100 mg Wellbutrin to augment another med (Lexapro) - I tried taking up to 300 mg but anything over 100 seems to give me eyelid twitches.... Really all the Wellbutrin does for me is help offset the fatigue from Lexapro. But for many it's the med that turns the lights back on.

Best wishes. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Lauryn,

I really hope so too! Just glad I have the new doctor's appt next Friday. I just found out that Phentermine has a major interaction with opiate dependence/abuse history, nobody with that history should touch it and I had that problem. I am really considering turning this doctor into my state medical, that is something else she should have known!

I have heard good things about Lexapro, does that med cause weight gain? That is one thing I do like about Wellbutrin is it gives me more energy and less of an appetite, so I have dropped about 8 pounds so far :)

I noticed yesterday that I feel better mentally, and it lasts a bit longer during the day until nighttime when it starts wearing off.
