Has anyone ever been on an AD and have it stop working? This happened to me with Paxil, Effexor and now Celexa.

I find after about 5 years they just become ineffective and I end up spiraling down to the dark place I worked to come out of.

This happened to me when I stopped taking a medication and then tried to retake it again. It didn't work the second time around. Have you asked your Dr. about possibly combining and SSRI with another class of anti-depressent medication, like Wellbutrin? I've heard many stories about medications no longer being effective for people and they usually have to increase the dosage, change or combine the medication with something else.

Sincerely,

MaddieLouise

Celexa was a miracle drug for me for 5 months and then it just seemed to stop working. That's actually what brought me to this forum. I'm hoping my dr. can find something else for me.

Beckala,

I'm sure your Dr. can help you work this out. Good luck!

This is very common. After 8 GREAT years on Paxil it 'pooped out' on me. I tried returning to it after a few months but it just didn't work as well as the first time, (also very common). Mirtazapine was ok but didn't 'bond me' like an SSRI does & I soon relapsed. I have now been taking citalopram/celexa for 3 months with less than 50% response & likely to change meds to venlafaxine in 2 weeks.
