Hi everyone,

I'm currently on STD (Manulife), and am really getting upset with them. In early June, my case manager contacted me to advise that my psychiatrist had told them that I was fine to return to work (I have severe depression). I was not at all ready to return, and this caused me extreme anxiety, and worsened my depression. I was not able to get into my psychiatrist's office until today to discuss this issue, so I was upset for over a month about this.

After speaking with my psychiatrist, and having him show me the paperwork he sent to my case manager, I found out that he in no way indicated that I should return to work. He had merely told them that he could not yet make an assessment on my ability to work, and would contact them after my next session. My case manager was tryinng to push me into returning to work when I wasn't ready. Furthermore, she managed to turn me against the one doctor who was trying to advocate for me.

I just hate that my insurance company doesn't care at all about my well being - just their bottom line. Anyone have a similar experience?

I'mnot in Canada; however, I have been on State dis ability in the past. They would send questionaire to me to have my doc fill out and sign-usually in his office. Until they received the paperwork back, there would not be a regular check in the mail. I think it was their way of trying to get me back to work. This insurance was funded by the employees and not by the company. The amount you received was based on the amount you paid into the fund. The company held the money in trust and had to release it when a claim was approved. My regular health plan often questionede why I had a long term illness and they would want to know the possibilty of recovery.

I "get" the bottom line with insurance companies.

God will give you no more than you can handle. This is all a test to see if you are really ready for the good things that are going to come your way. All this pain is going to come back and make me stronger.-Clarence Clemmons 1942-2011
