My tdoc and I just figured out where some of my anxiety comes from. First my cousin was raped and ******** when I was 6 years old and I was scared then that someone was going to breakin my window and **** me. I slept with my parents for a long time. I still,30 years later, have a fear of someone breaking in and hurting or ******* me. Second, I was bullied and 6th grade and I realized that after that I kind of fell into the background so that I couldn't be hurt again. I still do that. I don't want to upset anyone or get in an argument with anyone, so I get anxiety if people are annoyed in line at a store, or the bank. I don't want anyone mad at me and I won't do anything that might upset someone. I keep to myself and now I'm pretty much house bound.

Hi mef123,
I just read your post. I am so glad you are being helped by your doc and are not facing all these things alone. Has he given you medicine to help?
Anxiety can become a biological illness which hurts the brain itself. It can cause reductions in density, volume and size of brain systems. It can cause structural alterations in the brain and reduction in the growth and number of neurons. And it can cause the slowing down and reduction in the birth of new brain cell {neurogenesis}. Serious stuff! For this reason a visit to a doctor who can prescribe medicines is key, if only to rule out clinical anxiety and other things that can cause the same effects. Maybe you have already done this.
You sound like a wonderful person who is in a bad situation because of things beyond your control. You are not responsible for what happened to you! I am sorry you have had to go through all these terrible life experiences. I can see how you have coping skills. I can see how you are trying hard to get better after all the pain. I congratulate you on that!!!
I am happy to share some techniques I have learned from dealing with unwelcome pain. Just let me know. This forum will connect you to many kind and understanding people who will not judge you because we are all fellow sufferers. I wish you the very best!!!

Mental Illness is a serious health condition not to be trifled with. It requires treament by highly trained, experienced, qualified and Board-certified physicians, physician- specialists, and mental health professionals. There is no substitute for this professional care. I am not a mental health professional, only a fellow sufferer.
"A man is really ethical when he obeys the constraint laid on him to help all life which he is able to help, and when he goes out of his way to avoid injuring anything living. He does not ask how far this or that life deserves compassion as valuable in itself, how far it is capable of feeling. To him, life itself is sacred. He shatters no ice crystal that sparkles in the sun, tears no leaf from its tree, breaks off no flower, and is careful not to crush any insect as he walks. If he works by lamplight on a summer evening, he prefers to keep the window shut and breathe stifling air rather than see insect after insect fall on his table with singed and sinking wings. If he goes out into the street after a rain storm and sees a worm which has strayed there, he reflects that it will surely dry up in the sunlight, if it does not quickly regain the damp soil into which it can creep, and so he helps it back to the lush grass. Should he pass an insect which has fallen into a pool, he spares the time to reach it a leaf or a stalk on which it may clamor and save itself. Animals suffer as much as we do. We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. " Dr. Albert Schweitzer.
"Compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind." Dr. Albert Scheweiter.
