I don't know... maybe it's always been this way but I'm growing so cynical about the way this country is headed. It just feels like if you don't make at least 6 figures, politicians don't care about your problems. Universal Healthcare will probably never get passed because there are just too many people in this country who feel like "I've got healthcare so everybody else can die in the streets for all I care".

I don't know. It just feels like the rich are making unimaginable amounts of money and the poor have nothing. Nobody even seems to care. Companies are requiring more and more over-time from their employees while paying less and offering fewer benefits. THe only people who don't seem to be suffering are the guys in charge.

It really makes me scared for where this country is headed.

I understand where you are coming from. While this isn't the place to discuss politics, economic policies, etc., we can definitely say how the state of the world and our countries make us feel and how it relates to our depression or anxiety. It can be overwhelming to think too hard on these things. I've spent hours going over and over things I can't change. We can change ourselves. "Be the change you wish to see in the world." I think trying to be a good person can make the "big picture" less overwhelming. This type of thinking can definitely make you feel like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Do you live in America? There is definitely some kind of depression/recession. I think if it weren't for credit cards, things would really start getting crazy. And it's interesting/scary to think about what the final outcome will be for everyone using all that imaginary money.

I think that the state of the world these days is another thing that depressed and anxious people worry about. I know I do! I'm getting older now and I worry about what my life will be like when I retire. Worry, worry, worry!

I try to focus on the things over which I have control. I try to make my life as safe and comfortable as I can. It's all we can do!

I follow American political issues a lot myself. The economy has taken a huge toll on people's mental health. It's very hard not to get stressed out and worried if you lose your job, have no healthcare,a ton of student debt. It is tough to see so many other people struggling. I think a lot of it does come down to human nature and our perceptions of how things should work. It's interesting and scary to see the line's some humans will cross to get what they want at the expense of others. It can be overwhelming though to think about all these issues if you already have depression. I think it's important to realize as individual's what ways we can help out if we are up to it. As a ordinary citizen I think things like volunteering or activism are good ways to feel like you are helping out with issues you are passionate about.

Yeah, I can understand why you guys don't want to get into details of politics because you don't want to get into a bunch of fruitless republican vs. democrat debates but I don't even really see this as a politiical debate. The issue is that politicians don't care about us... Republican or Democrat. They care about people who can shell out six figure campaign contributions.

I find it really frustrating because the entire system seems to be broken and there's nothing you can do about it. These politicians were elected under the current system so they see no reason to change the system.

I know how you feel. I used to attempt an understanding of politics and hope that things would get better. But now I don't want any part in it because it is so disheartening. I can't even bear to watch The Daily Show anymore.

The recession hasn't taken a huge toll on our family, but just witnessing the destruction is difficult. My grandparents sold their house just before it all for $90,000. Then it was foreclosed on during the recession. Sold at auction for $33,000. Then again for $18,000. It struck me because I held the home in such high regard because all of my good memories reside there. All in only six years...

The whole state of the world worries me. But I don't want to talk about it right now. One of the only things I have a lot of hope for, is some amount of green energy. So I try to cling to that.

I don't want to just stop caring because it seems like that's what's wrong with this country, this is why corporations are able to run over the little guy... because nobody cares.

I agree.. Obama needs to reelected and he needs to put his foot down and be more progressive. At least obamacare got passed. That's a step in the right direction.

I disagree. Obama, Romney, and the entire group of crooks in Washington has sold out to Big Everything. The should be hung until dead

Hello everyone. DF is a site for peer support for those suffering from depression and other related illnesses and conditions. We must be respectful of everyone's viewpoints and make it our first priority here to be kind and sympathetic. Each of us has different views of politics and we will not alienate members by debates or aggressive posts. Be mindful of what you say and remember we are here to support one another through our hardships. :)

The thing many people with depression struggle with on other internet forums is that they end up getting dragged into awful debates and get flamed for their opinions or views. We do not permit such discussions on DF as our site is intended to be a safe haven where members can discuss their issues without having to get involved in the general arguing that occurs on other forums. Even though we believe in "Freedom of Speech", there is a very fine line drawn.

It is our pleasure to host this site and make it available 24/7 to those members who use it respectfully and graciously. That is why we are here and these are the members we are here for.

This site cannot run smoothly without some necessary regulations. We also reserve the right to take action against anything we feel is not appropriate.

Many Blessings,

SW
