Hi,
I decided to join this forum after an episode of depression and realizing that reading this forum and realizing I'm not alone helped me immensely. As opposed to laying with the covers over my head or wanting to bang my head against the wall. I'm hoping to also help others know that they are not alone at all, even though it can feel so overwhelming even in a group of people.
I've suffered from depression since I was 12, (I'm 22 now) and will often be fine until something goes wrong (which in life it always does) then it just hits me like a sledge hammer. So, hoping to not only give comfort but receive a bit as well. :) Glad to be here.

Happy to see you here. Depression is one of those illnesses that can rear its head at times and yes stress is a trigger to an episode. But hang in there, do what you need to do to take care of you. And if that means laying under the covers for a day or two, so be it. JUST DON'T STAY there. That is the key. You can't stay there. You give yourself time out to lay there, but there must come a time you set that ok, that is enough and we have to get doing. Hope to see you here often. and I am 43 and was diagnosed at the same age as you. And life is still great and worth living and up and down.

Hi Cilla. Good you realize you are not alone. There are always people here willing to help and/or just listen and support you.
Something you said I wanted to comment on was about being fine until something goes wrong. I'm just an old man but have learned over the years that things always go wrong in life. Life is not a bed of roses paved with a yellow brick road. Life is constantly throwing us curveballs. The trick is to not view each problem as something bigger than it really is or throw your hands up and give up when an obstacle is thrown in front of you. You will always be knocked down in life. The trick is to not stay down. Instead, keep getting up, brush yourself off and deal with it and keep moving forward.
Glad you're here and look forward to your posts.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! I've been looking around on the forum and I'm sure this place has helped many people in just knowing that they are not alone.
Screenman, it's all you sometimes can do, just take life day by day until it feels less like survival and more like living. You take care of yourself too ok?
Whispers, thanks for the advice. Life is certainly a roller coaster, it has its ups and downs all the time. I still have to train myself not to freak out at small things and act like it is the end of the world. It sometimes is a struggle to keep happy and not fall into that feeling of depression but there are good months and bad months. I'm happy I haven't stayed down thus far.
Thanks again everyone!
