The past couple of weeks these two feelings have taken over my life. I can't stop moving around and I'm bored to death. I try driving around, getting on the internet, talking to people, etc. Nothing helps me relax or gets rid of this bored feeling. Anyone else had to deal with this?

I typically have an irritable and agitated personality (well not ALL the time but am easily triggered into that state from even low levels of stress). Boredom? Are you jittery? Do you experience mania? Have you tried doing something you don't normally do to switch up the pace?

Many Blessings,

Hi Dusk

As Spiritual wanderer said, have you thought of trying something new? Like perhaps a new hobby or join a club or even some form of exercise, even walking may help.

Thank you both. This is completely new to me. I have had mania before but not for 10 years. Yes, I'm EXTREMELY jittery. I've tried several new things to see if I can get the bored feeling to go away, but none work.

What meds are you on? Do you think a med might have pushed you into a manic state? I found out that antidepressants do that to me so I also have to take a mood stabilizer. ?

You know, something that has been put on my mind lately is service to others. (Which I am not so good at now, as far as getting out there and physically doing something.) My brother takes his boys out to the beach with garbage bags and they pick up trash as a service to the community. That's a win-win for all. Have you considered something like that?

Many Blessings,

Technically, your agitation is called Akathisia. Regardless. It is a real condition and probably has some kind of physical basis. So, yes, it can be treated by various spiritual practices or trying to get involved with other experiences. But there's no reason to beat yourself up if those things don't work. I had a year + episode which was given many names but was essentially "agitated depression" as part of a major depressive episode. After trying many alternative approaches and, admittedly, a wide variety of meds, I was finally stabilized by taking a mood stabilizer and basic SSRI. (NO reason to say which ones 'cause everybody is different.) If you do decide to go that route, I'd recommend a psychiatrist rather than your primary care physicians—pdocs just have more experience. Might take some time, but it can get better. BTW: In the meantime a regular massage or some kind of bodywork can give some relief. Good luck!
