So I came off citalopram, as it wasnt even touching me, and the doc put me on 100mg sertraline. It's made a big difference, and is really the only med that ive ever actually "felt" working.

BUT while it's really helped my anxiety and depression, it has done so to the point of making me very apathetic about everything. I dont have the huge lows that I used to, but also dont have any highs - i dont enjoy anything anmore. I dont hate anything, Im not worried about anything - im just "meh" about everything. Its better than being up the wall all the time like i was, but i'd like to be able to have some enjoyment of something again....

Anybody else had this on sertraline?

Hi TroubleMunky,

I've had this as a start-up response to any AD I've taken in the initial phases. I believe we feel so apathetic because our anxiety was so strong to begin with. Also, in most cases, I've heard this does wear off, and you start to get your energy back. I also experinced this with Zoloft. I know it's no fun, but hang in there and talk to your MD if you don't start feeling better.

Sincerely,

MaddieLouise

Thanks. I actually prefer the apathy to to feeling the negatives. The lack of positives is a downside, but its preferable to the alternative. I think.

I agree that feeling positive and a little apathetic is way better than being a nervous wreck (as I was).

Sincerely,

I am on 100mg sertraline now and have been for about a year. I am looking for a new doc, that's the only reason I'm still on it. I feel like the only thing it does for me is not make me cry. I used to cry all the time, it's def helped with that. Other than that I have NO effects from it. Prozac made like you feel. I wasn't happy, wasn't sad, I was just existing. I don't which is better. It seems like there is sooo much trial and error with depression and I get so frustrated that nothing seems to be as effective as I want it to be. My doctors response when I told her that I didnt think it was working..."no one is happy all the time". I just love the concern she showed. As I stated previously, I am looking for a new doc.

I've had it. But I was one of the unlucky people that this side effect didn't go away. This was the secondary reason why I stopped it (bruxism being the main). After being on it for about a year and a half, I was a mess and so was my apartment. I just didn't care what I looked like, what I ate, what my home looked like.

But like you said, I'd rather have no feelings than be where I was and where I went to after stopping the sertraline.

I am very apathetic, myself. My grandmother died and I couldn't even work up a tear. But at least I'm not having scary fantasies about harming myself.
