Has anyone out there had success with Cymbalta for a while and then it stopped working?

It worked great (but not perfectly) for me for two years but then I started feeling low and tired. I then increased the dose but it made me aggitated. My doctor has since tried me on other meds that have not worked.

I'm thinking of asking him to put me back on it (maybe this time with a sleeping pill too) but don't know if it will work again.

Has anyone had this medication stop working? If so, what did u do?

Thanks,
Jo

Hi blah blah,

I have seen and heard of many instances where an anti-depressant can stop working. As to the cause, I really don't know, but could be like anything in which our body builds up a tolerance or an inability for a drug to be effective. When you increased your dosage, it would not have been unusual for you to feel the equivalent of start-up side effects, so you might want to stay on an increased dosage a little longer, before changing medications. I think it's worth trying. Cymbalta is effective for me at 90 mg., but it took awhile to get to the dosage.

Hope all goes well.

Sincerely,

MaddieLouise

Thanks for your reply MaddieLouise,

When I increased my cymbalta to 90mg I only tried it for two weeks, thinking that was long enough for the side effects to settle. Being through the hell that I've been through since I'm thinking I could have waited longer!

I am currently coming off Aurorix and will then start Concerta. I'll see how I go, if I start feeling depressed again it might be worth going back on the cymbalta.

Just take it slow and with your Dr.'s advice and I'm sure all will go well.
Much luck to you.

Hi,
I've been under the impression that 60mg is the max dosage for cymbalta. It has stopped working for me and I'd love to try a higher dosage, but my G.P. didn't think recommended dosage went higher than that either. I'd much rather stay on this and try a higher dosage than go through titration hell and trial and error again, as this worked so well for a while.
thanks for any feedback anyone can give.

Cymbalta's prescribing literature does indicate that 60 mg. is the maximum dosage recommended. I personally take 90 mg. and do great at that dosage. You will also see where some people have been prescribed 120 mg., and have been successful. Some studies I've read, reported no real difference in improving depression between taking 60 or 120 mg. Of course, I think it's all up to the individual and their physician, as I noticed a difference.

Sincerely,

MaddieLouise
