HI,
I was wondering if anyone has noticed that they are having hair loss from Zoloft? I know everyone loses so much hair a day,but I have been noticing I am losing alot more than usual! My beautician is even seeing that I have lost hair since than the last time I was in.Or if anyone out there on any other anti-depressants are experiencing this can you please reply to my post.I know it's not from the xanax I am on because I have been on that med for the last five years.And have not noticed any excessive hair loss! I sure don't want to go bald! LOL

Hi Lisa-

It's more likely that the emotional stress that led you to get on the Zoloft caused the hair loss. Extreme emotional distress can lead to hair loss, but sometimes we don't connect it because the hair loss tends to occur a few months after the stress. This happened to me when my dad died, and it all eventually grew back.

I have not noticed any hair loss from Z. Agree with KA, other things besides Z can do it.

I think my hair loss is from the large numbers of medications I take plus any stressors involved. I lose a lot of hair on a daily basis, but I am a far ways away from being bald. lol Actually, my hair grows in as fast as I lose it or so it seems. I would not presume the hair loss is strictly from Zoloft. There could be other circumstances surrounding hair loss including such things as an over or underactive thyroid. If you haven't had your thyroid checked, you may want to discuss having that done with your medical doc.

Thanks Sheep woman for your reply. I have had my thyroid checked so mant times in the past.I have always been very thin.Which has bothered me!Thinking it was my thyroid,but it always comes back normal.
I am subconsious of my weight because I am 5 foot 6inches and only weigh 109 pounds.I have been this way my whole life.Never been over 110 pounds. I eat very well,but can't ever gain weight. When I ever I see a new doctor they always assume I am anoriexic.Which I get upset!!! Because I have never had that problem! I don't even like to go swimming in the summer because I look so thin! I feel like everyone is thinking that of me! I know it is hard on over weight people ,but I feel that way about myself!
I eat heathy but I also eat pretty much junk food to so I don't lose weight.Some of my family members are very thin also. I am wondering if I should see an endocronologist maybe they can do further testing on my thyroid?

If you have had normal thyroid panels done by your doc then seeing an endocrinologist may not be necessary. Since thinness runs in your family there is a strong possibility that this could be inherited. Maybe you should move away from the junk food diet (which is too fatty) and towards more wholesome and high fiber foods (cholesterol lowering). Have you asked your doc about your hair loss?

My daughter lost a lot of hair on Prozac. That was the reason we switched her to Zoloft. She's been on it for 3 weeks. I have my fingers crossed.

I have definalty noticed THINNER hair, but no hair loss thankfully

I am currently on Zoloft and i am also experiencing hair loss i have had a full blood work up and all the tests were normal. I went to a dermatologist who felt that it was definately the zoloft causing it and she said she has seen this happen on the odd occasion with other people it is a side affect but usually rare.

I did have some hair loss in the beginning of the med. i was concerned, but it finally stopped. I would say somewhere in the 1st few months of adjusting on the med. All the side effects usually go away with time. Stay in touch with all your doctors. If it becomes something that really bothers you maybe there is something the Dr. can do to help. I would have gone bald if needed since the med worked so well for me.

Lisa, I had horrendous hair loss from Topamax, but I discontinued it, and started taking biotin, a B vitamin. I have thicker hair now than I ever had , and I have been on Zoloft for over 8 years. Try biotin, 50mgs a day, it also seems to have a calming afect, and is good for your nerves.

Heeeelp if anyone has experiance hair loss can you respond, This has been great for me but 9 weeks ago I was put on 100mg a day and since then I have lost 1/3 of my hair ( i know this from the width of my pony tail) the hair is falling with the root attached... does it grow back???

I also have had hair loss/thinning, on Zoloft, but never thought about trying the Biotin. I take a multi, but there's not much biotin, in that. Maybe I should try it. Thanks for the heads up.
