Hi everyone! I have been on Cymbalta for only 3 days and on the first day, I already had the panicky feeling and insomnia. But I'm taking it because I have thyroid issues that have brought on the depression. I've never taken AD in my life. But lately I've been having obsessive compulsive thoughts and I just couldn't handle it anymore and finally spoke to the dr about it and she prescribed the Cymbalta. Plus she prescribed xanax for bedtime.

Today is day three and this morning I woke up so anxious it was horrible. I felt back asleep and when i woke up, it was a bit better.
I've lost my apetite, i'm sensitive to the cold which I've NEVER had that problem before, total opposite, I have like stomach aches. I really don't like how I feel right now and it's only day 3. When will I start to feel "normal"? How long does the panicky feeling take to go away?

Thanks for your help!

I would suggest that you give it a few days and then to call your prescribing doctor to describe your symptoms. During my trial on cymbalta, the anxiety and insomnia went on for a few weeks. Changing the time of day you take the cymbalta might help with the insomnia. My anxiety got quite intense in the early evening. A tiny dose of an anti-anxiety medication helped; perhaps you could ask your doctor whether you could use the xanax to help with that. I was able to go off the anti-anxiety medication after the start up period was over. Like you, I was taking a sleeping aid and so the insomnia was bearable.

The symptom that may be of more concern may be the stomach issues. There are many serotonin receptors in the stomach, and so that may be the source of your issues. Again, I think it would be prudent to consult with your doctor.

It took me a full 6 weeks to experience the benefit of this medication. Again, that was just my experience....

I truly appreciate your answers. I take Synthroid at around 6:30 in the morning, so I don't know how long I have to wait until i take the cymbalta. I really didn't like how I woke up this morning, very, very anxious, like the issue that is bothering me became compulsive, i went to the restroom and it was like i was a zombie or something. uggghhhh. I didn't take the Xanax at bedtime like i was supposed to, but I am definitely going to tonight. Once again, thanks for answering, I feel like I'm the only going thru this and no one understands.

Sra:

if you doctor prescribed the Xanax, it is okay to take it. It is not unusual at all for a doctor to prescribe a medicine like Xanax while one's body is adjusting to Cymbalta. For some of us it takes a while to settle down from the initial effects of Cymbalta

Well today I woke up again with anxiety, At around noon took .25 mg of Xanax and I still feel the same. Yesterday I experienced leg and toe cramps, which i thought was pretty strange. I keep tossing and turning at night and noticed that I'm not dreaming, well at least I can not remember anything. OMG! I already want to feel better. :boredsmiley:

I'm sorry Day 5 isn't that much better for you. What you are describing is unfortunately pretty consistent with the start up symptoms of Cymbalta.

I do hope you feel the positive benefits soon.

Hi. The worst symptom I had was a lack of appetite and that didn't even last long enough for me to lose even a tiny bit of weight! Lol
Oh I did notice after about 4 weeks a strange sense of anxiety. It only lasted a day or so.
Overall cymbalta is working well. I hope it works for you too!
One strange thing - In the early hours of the morning I notice strange light shows - flashes I can see with my eyes closed - it wakes me sometimes but idont find it particularly annoying. I figure if I am really tired I probably sleep through it.

I noticed that my eyes are dry, I still don't have my appetite completely back, which isn't a bad thing! LOL
What mg did you start with?
When I wake up I wake up a lil bit anxious, does that happen to any of you?

This morning I work up feeling ok, then around an hour and a half later, anxiety hit! Which ended up in alot of :tear2: crying. I think i slept better because i took the cymbalta at noon instead of at 4 like i was doing. Man, this is no way to start the day.... I wouldn't be able to handle this if I were working. :help:

Nothing has changed yet! Still feeling the same, but something I did notice was a tightening of my jaw. I'm still having early morning anxiety. :verysad3:

I take my cymbalta in the morning and it's always with food. The one time I took it on an empty stomach I thought I was going to die. It seemed like it burned ***** right through me. I have tried taking it with my evening meal and it kept me awake.
