I suffer from GAD and I can say that we all have different physical symptoms related to it. For me, its breathing. I get short of breath or feel like I cant take a deep breath when something has happened that really emotionally bothers me. Or pretty much anytime but usually its when I've been very stress that it happens. I take Effexor 37.5mg and klonopin. I am med sensitive that is why I am on such a low dosage so dont take me as an example for how much you should take.
May I ask what is the dosage of effexor you are on?

Hello SalmonStalker,
My official diagnosis is schizoaffective disorder, which causes depression. I also suffer major anxiety. Truth be told, only a doc can say which med is best for you. Since every person is different, what works for me, may not work for you.
That being said
I have been on the following for a decade, or so, with much success:
Effexor
Wellbutrin
Lithium
Risperdal
Xanax (as needed for anxiety attacks)
Halcion (for sleep)
I suggest you check with your doc for med recommendations.
Salmon, I'm a bit confused. You title this topic "Panic and OCD." Are you contributing your throat tightening to OCD? Or are you saying that you have OCD in addition to anxiety? Pardon my asking; brain's not in full gear tonight.

Hi Salmon,
Thanks clarifying your issues. BTW, I did understand "SalmonStalker" to be your name. I was asking about the OCD and anxiety, but that's neither here nor there. Thanks for taking the time to explain. Sorry about the confusion.
It is very possible for our mental health to affect our physical health. Something like OCD can exasperate symptoms of physical conditions. It's like you said, if you obsess about your throat, you'll be more keenly aware of any little constriction.
Also, I have "talked" myself into being sick. The whole psychosomatic deal. I've panicked so much over the thought of having am anxiety attack that I erupted in a full blown major anxiety episode. Panicking because I might panic about possible panic.
If I didn't laugh at my goofy brain, I'd float away in a river of tears.
As for relationships, MIs are very hard for "normal" (I hate that word) people to understand. As a result, those of us with illnesses suffer relationship losses at the times when we most need people in our lives. I can say from personal experience that it is possible to have long terms relationships, both romances and friendships, though. Sometimes it just takes a while.
Besides Effexor, are you taking anything else? Effexor has helped me, but wasn't quite enough. My doc added in 2 other meds and I've been doing well ever since. Salmon, talk to your doc. Explain that you're not seeing top-notch results and ask if there's more that can be done.

hey beANCHOP, THANX for the feed back , iam not on anyother all the time meds , just use ativan when needed but dont like to too often as for its addictive, and not that healthy to be on for long periods of time and i will talk to my doctor and see if theres something else i can add in , i used to take paxil for ten years and it worked great not a single pannick attack and never even thought about it , but when it came back after a hard break up after 7 years of dating and having a son together , it didnt seem to be doing the trick anymore, but iam thinking now i havent been on it for a year it may be afective again , thanks for the insight

Hey Salmon Stalker,
Happy to have been of help. That's what DF is all about - sharing our experiences so we can learn, grow, recover with the support of people who truly understand.
Break ups most certainly can throw us into a deep depression. Can I ask how long ago the breakup was? If it's too personal of a question. just say, "Bean, shut up." and I'll shut up.
You should only share what you're comfortable with sharing.
I ask because I've been there myself (a broken engagement 18 years ago). No matter how happy I am in love and life, I'll never forget that painful time.

this break up was 2 years ago and it was after seven years of dating having our son isaac and also had a son named michael 2 years prior who died during the birth process which was a pretty big strain on our relationship also, iam in a new relationship now living with a girl after only 5 months of dating she has 6 month old daughter and my son is 2 now, i had stayed with my parents after the break up to get back on my feet and i felt ready to move out on my own again , i know 5 months is a little soon to live with someone after going through all that but we both needed roomates and we were dating so it just kinda worked out that way......
