Ok I am new to this forum. I am going to make a long story short. I have had bad panic and anxiety issues. Ten years ago first time.... anyway managed to get it under control for a long time................ forward to now... I been having panic /anxiety last year again.. was on paxil... decided a month a go to go off paxil ... see if it helped... anyway to make another long story short.. I have been very sick especially the last week. MAJOR PANIC ALL THE TIME/DEPRESSED/CRYING/SUICIDAL THOUGHTS... I almost lost it.. I am so sick I had to send my four year old to her dads. I spent a night in the psych ward, but I left against medical advice... for anyone that has been in one or had the bad experience you will understand... so it is my second day out... I wouldnt take anything to help me til yesterday. I became phobic of taking pills, finally yesterday I caved in desperation and took some clonazapam. Now my doctor gave me celexa as well to start...
I am neuotic about taking pills, I have major phobia and I am very scared, fearful , afraid right now. I know it helped taking the clonazapam although I almost get anxiety when I take it.. I need some positive stories pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...how it has helped if anyone has any...thanks Anything positive... I already read some of the posts and I had to stop or I will never take one... thanks...

melly0399-
Sorry to hear of your experience, but I went almost the same route. Paxil first. Clonazepam was added shortly thereafter, and I was on both for years. Then, I took myself off Paxil(not recommended, but I did it over a 3 month period, and suffered nothing, and I too spent 24 hours in a psych hospital). Later, as I sank back into depression, Celexa was prescribed. Being another SSRI(Paxil) I refused to even fill the scrip. Six months later I "caved in". I took the Celexa. Well, short of getting graphic, it was just NOT the med for me, yet many have had great success on it, as you may well. I moved on the the SNRI class of meds, Pristiq to be precise, and have had little to no SEs. You might want to try that route if Celexa turns out not to be for you. Again, unfortunately you'll never know until you try.
I have no fear of taking clonazepam, as it's been a miracle med for me. I am BPII Dx'd but have never taken a mood stablizer, as the benzo seems to do the trick for that.
I wish the best for you, and please don't fear taking meds! Fear not moving into recovery.
Warmest Regards,
Deepster
Unfortunately, the trail and trial can be long, but in all liklihood you will find a combo that works.

Hi Melly0399,
Im sorry your going through such a bad time. I haven't quite managed to climb out of my black hole yet, so I understand your pain.
I was on Celexa for 8 years for major anxiety (I only really suffer the depression after the anxiety goes on and on) and found it very tolerable. I am now on Lexapro after trying many other antidepressants after the Celexa stopped working as well after such a long time.
The Celexa did take a few weeks to ease the anxiety and back then I didnt have any benzodiazepines to take with it. I don't like taking medication, I dont even take painkillers when I get a migraine, but antidepressants can help you get your life back.
From my understanding and experience Celexa and Lexapro are top of the list for tolerability and effectiveness when it comes to SSRI's. Everybody is different though.
Remember that a lot of people come on here when things arent going to well, so the success stories arent always posted because people are out living their lives. I have made a point of coming on here and reporting the good stuff as well.
I hope things get better for you real soon.
Hang in there
and give it time.
