I’ve suffered with extreme anxiety and depression since I was in my early teens – 1986. Depression, worry, anxiety, extreme mood swings, etc not only effected myself to the point of vomiting stomach acid/bile every morning, frequent stomach ulcers, shingles (herpes zoster) twice, hair pulling; but also negatively impacted my family members, friends, and coworkers.
In November 2008, I was prescribed the older generation TCA antidepressant imipramine (Tofranil) for 6 months, but it did nothing to make myself feel better. Then, in April 2009, my prescription was changed to paroxatine (Paxil), however the side effects of this SSRI resulted in major weight gain, tiredness, and a significantly lower libido.
Just last month, my prescription was again changed to a combination of fluoxetine (20mg Prozac) and bupropion (300 mg Wellbutrin). Happily, the negative symptoms of depression, anxiety, etc have finally decreased to the point of my life feeling normal, functional, and healthy again. This latest antidepressant combination has given hope back into my life and I now feel positive about each day and no longer feel so depressed and burdened with massive amounts anxiety, worry, and depression.

Hi scooterboy!
I was happy to read your post. That is the exact same drug combo and and dosages I am on. I'm using the generic W/B 150mg twice a day with 20mg generic Prozac. I have been on the W/B for about 6 weeks and tomorrow will be 2 weeks for the prozac. I'm also starting to feel better myself.
I had shingles when I was just 27 years old. The doctors kept telling me that I was the youngest they seen get it. I think in my case it may have been brought on by my cat scratching the heck out of me a few days earlier.
Hope you keep doing well.

Good for you, Scooterboy! I hope things continue to go well for you. I did well on a Wellbutrin/Lexapro combo for three years.

UPDATE:
No sooner that I finished the original post of this thread that I started feeling elevated anxiety for no apparent reason. This lasted four or five days until my doctor advised me to stop taking the Wellbutrin. I guess as the Prozac increased in my blood level it reacted too strongly with the Wellbutrin. So, no more WB.
Anyways, I was worried that a complete cold turkey withdrawal from WB would cause terrible symptoms but nothing happened. It was as if I was never taking it - even though i was at 300 mg for over two months.
So, I'm gonna give 20mg of Prozac a go fort a few months and see how it goes. It's only been 3 weeks so far so it's a little too early to tell for sure.

Sorry to hear that the Wellbutrin/Prozac combo didn't work for you. I am currently on 300 mg of brand Wellbutrin XL and 20mg of generic Prozac (fluoxetine). This combo has worked really well for me. This is probably the best combination I have ever tried with the least side effects. I feel normal again, but everyone is so different! What works for one, may not works for another.
I hope that you can find what works best for you too.

How long have you been on this combo Laura? Have you noticed any side effects with one or the other and both together?
I'm thinking of asking my Psych about Wellbutrin as I'm only on 20mg Prozac and have difficulty being fully attentive to anything (zombie like) I'm reaching the end of week 2 and my constant fatigue has turned to insomnia/slight fatigue and I now feel too lazy to do anything. On the flip side, when I wake up, I feel really refreshed, something I haven't felt in years as I've always had sleeping problems.
