Hey all,
Over the past two months, I have lost fifteen pounds due to a combination of meds (Wellbutrin, particularly), heartache, financial strain, and feelings of loneliness and melancholy. This is not a good thing. The problem is that most of the time I have no appetite and have to force myself to eat. Does anyone have any advice on how to increase appetite and gain weight back? Also, does anybody know of any shake recipes that can help? They need to be cheap to make, but also extremely easy to drink, so that I can just slam it down.
More about me:
23 year old male, diagnosis of bipolar depression, 450mg wellbutrin sr/150mg seroquel daily.
Anything helps! Thanks in advance.

Hi and Welcome ozirhanz
I am not a professional, but Bipolar can affect your thyroid, which controls your metabolism.
If you have an over active thyroid (Graves disease), which as far as I know can be common with bipolar, there is not much in the way of shakes that can help you to change your metabolism.
You would need to see a doc and have a thyroid test done and they will advise what you can do to keep you thyroid and metabolism balanced.

Wellbutrin tends to dull the appetite, ergo part of your weight loss. Your life issues also affect appetite. 450mg is the max dosage for WB. Is it helping your depression at all? If not, talk to your pdoc.
Thyroid malfunctions (hyper/hypo) affect metabolism and can affect mood. If your thyroid is overactive, you will lose weight regardless of what you eat, feel very nervous/restless, tremor and find it difficult to think or sleep. If it's underactive, weight gain is normal, fatigue, lethargy, slow thought processes are symptoms. If you think your thyroid may be off, see your GP and have a thyroid panel done.
