I am in a vicious cycle right now.
For starters - I am on 20mg Celexa generic and 150mg Wellbutrin generic.
I have issues with drinking and I stopped drinking about two weeks ago.
So I work during the day and I get home around 6 and I am exhausted. I get home and I'm too tired to eat or do practically ANYTHING. I literally drop all of my belongings and crash into bed and sleep until around 11pm. Everyone tells me that I should just stay up late even though I'm tired, but it's not just "tired" it's completely and utterly about to collapse exhaustion.
I then usually wake up around 11pm and stay up online for a few hours, going back to sleep around 3:30 and waking up at 8 for work. I get up and roll over usually, sometimes even too tired to shower. I am miserable in the morning.
I have been having sleep issues for a lonnnng time and I have talked to my therapist about it, and she has given me reason as to why I might be doing this. I've done things before where I used to stay up online and just not go to bed even if I was tired. She says it has something to do with not wanting the day to end, and wanting hours to myself, since I don't get the hours to myself at work.
Has anyone else dealt with terrible sleep issues? As I get older it gets so much worse. I am nearing 30. In my early 20s I slept like a baby, and took naps a lot in college which was nice.
I'm just not sure what to do about this. It's starting to ruin my life.

Major Sleep Problems - Any Advice?

chiquen81-
I have totally been in your place. Every AD I have ever been put on has caused for me the exact situation that you describe. First, you know the drinking has to be gone for good.....like forever if you want to get a handle on the depression. I've never met an AD that didn't affect my sleep in one way or another. I am now prescribed ambien PRN, and trazodone for every night use. Trazodone is a very old tricylic type AD, that for the most part is only used for sleep anymore. You might want to check with your prescriber about it. It does have some effect on serotonin, so if the celexa is working for you the trazodone may even give a slight boost to the celexa(at least according to my doc). I will say this, trazodone can make you quite drowsy in the mornings, but nothing a cup of coffee won't snap you out of in about an hour.....at least that's my experience.
I was prescribed the ambien in addition to the traz because in my dr's opinion sleep had become such a major issue for me, that she had no prob prescribing both, as sleep is such a critical part of getting depression under control.
I hope you meet with a similar success. Reseach the meds I am taking and be prepared to talk with your doctor about them. Benzos are also often used, but if you have any history of alcohol or other substance abuse, gook luck in getting them. As a matter of fact docs just don't like prescribing them anymore except in the most critical cases of anxiety where nothing else seems to work.
