i take lorazepam and sertraline for ocd and depression.
i have a initial job offer and am asked to take a drug test...i will disclose my meds upfront and i have a prescription..
however, isnt it that i am still at their discretion to give me the job or not? this is for an engineer position...
anyone who has undergone this process and has the outcome to share will be helpful
in the past i have stopped taking meds to be clear for the drug test but have relapsed
i really dont know what to do...stop meds or just disclose (but then again i am at their discretion..they are not bound by any law)
thanks

Pre Employment Drug Test - Lorazepam And Sertraline

Normal drug tests for employment do not test for antidepressants unless you are subjected to a 12 panel screen which do test for benzos and tri-ad's . I'm not sure you should even disclose it because it's honestly none of their business but if they ask you I suppose you should. I get 5 panel screens through work and they've never asked me about my scripts. Do you know if it's a 5, 7 or 12 panel test? As long as you have scripts I wouldn't worry too much.
Here's what an intensive 12 panel test covers.
Amphetamine (AMP)
Barbiturate (BAR)
Benzodiazepines (BZD)
Cocaine (COC)
Marijuana (THC)
Methadone (MAD)
Methamphetamine (MET)
Opiates (OPI)
Oxycodone (OXY)
Phencyclidine (PCP)
Propoxyphene (PPX)
Tricyclic Antidepressant (TCA)

Hi WillSucceed,
As long as you disclose your meds history up front, there shouldn't be a problem.
Please keep us posted. Good luck!'

Thanks for the answers..i really appreciate it
ok...the testing site person wouldnt have an issue but cant the employer have a doubt in his mind that if i am taking these meds then why should they continue hiring me because i might be drowsy at work...this is an engineering position..although i personally know i will be giving my best...
the employer can still decline the offer if they feel uncomfortable me taking these meds right?
sorry for further asking these questions
