if and when I feel the time is right, I hope to discontinue Xanax XR. For anyone with experience of going off this, what can I expect for withdrawls, if any?
For how long?

I have only been on this for under a year and it has helped. I am just curious as to if I decide to stop using it, what I might expect. I only take 1mg/day, a low dose IMO.

Please comment and give me feedback.
Thanks

Hi, I am currently on Xanax XR and I have often wondered how hard it is going to be to get off of.  Are you just contemplating for the future or are you close to going off?  Is your anxiety better now?  Even with a low dose you may experience some withdrawal symptoms.  I would assume your doctor can devise a withdrawal schedule for you.   It shouldn't take so long at your dose especially since .5 mgs is the next lowest pill and the lowest dose pill.

yes, my anxiety is MUCH better. This has been one med that I do not regret trying. It has helped me a ton!
I think I could go off it now, but sometimes I just wonder, what should I really do. I am finding it to be a very tough choice.
Has it helped me, absolutley!!!
Do I want to be on it the rest of my life, I don't think so.
That is where I am with my situation. This has helped me much more than any of the other meds I took, Zoloft, Paxil and Lexapro.

It does sound like a hard choice to make.  Have you talked about it with your doctor?  I understand not wanting to be on it forever.  It is certainly wise to consider your current need to see if it is appropriate for you to taper off.  I guess another question would be if it is working why mess with it now.  I don't think anyone could tell you whether you will be fine without it or if going off of it will bring you back to where you were before with your anxiety.  I guess you could always restart it in the future since you know it helps you.
