Hi, I've been on 60-80mg of fluoxetine for around two years. During this time my hands haven't stopped shaking, could it be from the Prozac? Or psychosomatic or something??

Been on it for just over a day, and am certainly noticing the nausea!
Also complete loss of appetite, ha, I threw away half a breakfast bar this morning because I didn't feel like eating anymore.

increased anxiety in the first couple of weeks, sexual side-effects (less desire), and graphic dreaming.

Today....I will stop viewing the "crazy quilt" of my past like a heavy, ugly, and tattered blanket on my back. I will stop allowing it to weigh me down, with each and every imperfect patch reminding me of all of my mistakes. Instead, I will begin to see my quilt as a light, colorful, and interesting collection of experiences that have made me who I am today. Imperfect. Beautiful....

I can live with the insomnia, somnolence, slight nausea, increased anxiety but some side effects are starting to affect my lifestyle, especially my social life.
1) Asthenia (or muscle weakness): I feel powerless specially in my right limbs. I feel as if I've lost mobility and stability as well. When I have to lift a foot up, eg. climbing the stairs, I feel a momentary loss of balance and I had to exercise re-assertive force to keep myself from swaggering too much.
2) Loss of speech fluency: I'm not sure whether fluoxetine causes this since I'm taking long term medicine for my other chronic illness, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). But since fluoxetine affects the brain, I figured that it might have a part to play in this side effect.
I have to be cautious in pronouncing certain words nowadays, and when I speak long sentences, I have the tendency to stumble upon some words midway. It causes me to be slightly withdrawn in conversations, knowing that I have this problem.
Are these normal? Or *god forbid*, I'm suffering from something worse? I did an MRI scan just a few months ago, and it came out fine. Hopefully, my worries are all unfounded. =S

for the first few months the most annoying side effect was the excessive sleepiness. I would literality pass out during class that I even enjoyed going to. But that eventually went away and now I am just able to get a really good nights sleep. I find the increase in the frequency of my headaches and the decrease of libido much more annoying.

I've been on 40mgs for a couple months now. I have noticed my hands shake from time to time & muscle twitching. Not facial, just general muscles when I am still or trying to get to sleep. I've been taking clonazepam to help with it as if i don't take one every other day or so, the twitching is there with a vengeance. An arm, wrist, leg, ankle, knee, etc. - a jerk or twitch every few minutes. I also grind my teeth every now & then (it was more often but has decreased over the last few weeks now)
During the day, I wiggle or tap my leg almost constantly. I used to do this pre-'zac, but since I started it, it has really taken off! My doc ALMOST put me on RLS meds before my therapist talked to him and suggested the clonazepam.
I'm definitely more hyper, but not too strung up... it's a level I can handle with the help of the clonaz at night. I need to talk to my doc about this though - I'm not sure if this is a good long term solution. Everything else is going great though - it has really helped me out!

Most of the side effects have gone by now (five weeks today for me), the only thing that remains is sleep disturbances - I wake up a lot in the mornings, usually over the two hours before my alarm is due to go off. I don't usually have trouble falling asleep again and ultimately it makes getting up easier than it was before medication, when I could not rouse myself at all, so I can live with it :)

Today is day 14 for me - I get occasional headaches which NOTHING will make go away, usually I'm the sort who can take a paracetemol and carry on, but about once every week it seems I am getting a splitting headache, not quite a migraine, just one that makes my head feel kinda... swollen and sore, I guess. I am also really tired, but I think that's a depression symptom anyway for me. I've been having more highs (but those have been when it's sunny...), other than that not much. Had no appetite for the first 4 days though. Hoping that I won't get anything else.
Oh, and I have noticed I keep tapping my foot. I think that is a med thing, I never did it before. It doesn't really bother me though. My cat does attack my foot, though. Ha.

QUOTE (Ronnie @ Aug 9 2004, 10:40 PM) just the sexual side effects for me, it worked great for everything though... anxiety/depression/ocd. Ronnie, I too am frustrated with the sexual side effects. I need help finding the name of a book on depression that Loni O'Grady(Mary, from "Eight is Enough" show) endorced(she has her picture on the back). I was treated by the author(doc.) years ago. He had me taking a single pill that enabled me to reach orgasm!!! I don't remember his mane so that I may contact him again. I have searched with no luck. Could the forum members possibly help? It seems many of us could benefit from this info. Happy hunting, eat pray love

QUOTE (numbskullll @ Nov 27 2008, 06:06 PM) Day 11 so far the worst side effect is mood swings, from feeling as high as a kite to sitting in a corner crying in a matter of hours. This is exhausting!
My sex drive is as strong as ever. Too bad I'm single. hi numbskulll, Can you tell me what your taking that isn't affecting your sex drive? Thanks, eat pray love

QUOTE (grm @ Jun 12 2009, 06:22 PM) Hypertension and weight gain. Have to do more exercise to counteract these side effects. Not always easy to do when your mood isn't great. Ugh what do you think caused your weight gain. Is is Prozac-induced lethargy/fatigue? Because that's what I'm experiencing - MAJOR TIREDNESS! And yes it is bothering me. But Prozac is so darned good for my mood! I want to stay on Prozac but won't if I can't find something with which to successfully battle the fatigue.

Definitely decreased libido. I'm now taking Wellbutrin which will hopefully improve that. Celexa killed my libido. I had no desire AT ALL. Hopefully once the Celexa gets out of my system I'll be able to actually WANT sex again.

Mostly real positive.
Weight loss (which is awesome).
I get the jitters a little, but its manageable. And I had real weird dreams for the first month.
Big decrease in anxiety and sex drive.

I've just come off the Prozac. Have to say being on Prozac felt better than the initial depression, but being off Prozac and not being depressed is far far better than being on it. I feel like something has just lifted really only a few days after stopping them. Like a fog that I actually didn't realise I was in if that makes sense. I also had annoying physical symptoms which I'm sure when I look back are Prozac related, bloated stomach and ibs, bladder problems and ahem, excess wind!! I was also prone to being quite angry occasionally, for no apparent reason, which is not like me, and often thought about quite manic solutions to my problems. Also getting on Prozac was HORRIBLE! Much worse than coming off, weird dreams, insomnia and very irrational depressive thoughts that I didn't actually have when I was depressed. The only com ing off symptoms I've had is weird shock/jolt like sensations but they are not bad enough to bother me. I'm pretty determined not to go on this drug again actually, I'm sure it's a breeze for some people, it did sort my depression, but I'm sure there are other ways for me if I get depressed again that are less problematic.

Hello all, I am new to this forum and am suffering from Anxiety and Depression. Doctor prescribed Fluoxetine 20mg last week, my side effects incl. insomnia (but I am on shift work so it could be that too) I do take zopiclone 7.5 mg to help me sleep but it will help for 3 hours then I am wide awake. I am also off my food, totally unlike me because I used to love my food now I just stick to a bit of porridge and some homemade soup, it's the only thing that I can keep down.

have started fluoxetine (here the brand name is lovan) 3-4 days ago, and for some strange reason even though I have been on this medication before, my body seems to be reacting with it really weirdly. I have not slept for 2 whole nights, and last night I had heart palpitations which were so bad I felt like I was dying and I have never felt so terrible in my whole life, my vision was also blurring, and no matter how slowly I forced myself to breathe the heart wouldn't slow. None of this happened the last time I went on this medication, cept for one night of insomnia. I'm not sure if i should continue with it or not, I am desperate to get better but I would rather just be depressed and anxious than go through that hell again.. in fact I would rather break bones that go through that again

might also add I haven't experienced any loss of libido (although naturally it has never been any good, not sure if it's depression or just me) but it's only been a few days on the medication so I guess that symptom comes later. but one thing I did notice which was really bizarre, yesterday I tried to have sex and it made me dizzy and nauseous, despite the fact it was enjoyable otherwise.... lol
